Tear down

I don’t need a lot of penetration, I’m just a trail rider and would like to run woodys megabites 1.75”on a storm track 1.5”. Is it really that close?

I run 1.575” Woody’s Gold Diggers on a 1.25” Ripsaw II. Had track at 1.70” deflection at 20 lbs weight like manual said. Studs tore up the fins on my front heat exchanger. I tightened the track tension up significantly based on the Precision EFI method that many members on here recommend. That video has been posted numerous times in this forum if you search for it. Sorry not on a device able to do that right now.

Edit: here, post no. 3 for the vid: https://ty4stroke.com/threads/studs-hit-heat-exchanger-fins.160313/

Do you run a woodys series 1575 or a stud that is 1.575” long. I was thinking running the woodys series 1575 on the 1.5 storm. The series 1575 is 1.98” overall length

I run woodys 1575s on my 1" tracks

Yes it’s the 1575 series. They call it that because after you pull it through the track it has an effective height of 1.575”. When I ordered mine I asked Woody’s the same question.

Track tension video from PEFI:
IMO the more studs you have the more important it is to pay close attention to track tension.

Has anyone had any luck welding a rear heat exchanger without taking it out? It is easily accessible.

Imo your are better off to remove the heat exchanger to clean the area to be welded well and have it tig welded in the flat position!!

I've done it on the sled and off. This was a front exchanger on a Venture.

Wow that's long. I was wondering if I should go 1.325 on a 1 inch. How many km a year do you put on with those?
I'm in the North and generally in good snow, lake runs, etc... 2 years on the track/stud combo and no issues, 9000 kms or so, track must be tight! I run megabites, never bent one yet. I also use the biteharder stud sharpener to keep them sharp.

Marc, you have sooo many talents. I sure wished I lived close to you, there's all kinds of things you could do for me! What beer do you like? LOL

I have learnt so much being on ty4stroke over the years and learn everyday!!
Nothing more rewarding then challenging your self and succeeding!
One of my next challenges in the future is to find a 998 motor and build a monster from the bottom up.

Your right about that! Imagine if someone took the time to make service/owners/performance manuals from the info available on this site for each of the yamaha models?!?! Would be worth twice its weight in gold!
