Thunder Products (Big Venom Viper kit) with Heavy Hitters

I think he means on Lonn's website....which I have talked with him about :)

Ordered the kit today! Got the Gates carbon fiber belt for $99 and Lonn talked me in to the 911 clutch cover too!!
:sled2:
:letsnow:
I just put mine in last weekend and it was easy. Lonn was out of the small shim washers for the secondary which are needed if you use the gates belt. I used some 1mm washers I got at the hardware store. Nospro has been very helpful with questions and make sure you watch his video because it made it super simple.

Is it worth getting the gates belt over running the 8DN?

Thought I'd share my experience with the gates carbon belt. I've ran one some on my turbo viper and also some on a stock clutched viper, consensus: for the first 10 minutes it performed great, gripped very hard, good strong midrange, and top speed was excellent. After 10 minutes of riding the belt just kept getting more and more grip, if it was running spot on at 8900-9000 rpm for the first 10 minutes, after it was all warmed up and everything was heat soaked it was only pulling 8500-8600 rpm and lost a lot of the quick snap that we all love with our vipers. Seen this on 2 different vipers with very different clutch setups and very different horsepower ranges. Now, I will say that the fastest top speeds I've seen have been when I had the gates belt on, but on that same note, when run back to back on timers with a gates belt and clutch setup vs an 8dn belt and clutch setup, the 8dn belt was quicker every time, gates belt came on great mid range and top end and always pulled faster mph but never was able to get it to run as quick as the good ole 8dn. So I guess take it for what it's worth, by now most of the people on here are either running an 8dn belt or have spare ones around, I'd suggest trying the tried and trued 8dn first, if you use it and still feel you need more top end u can always get the gates belt later, just keep in mind that there's a very good chance that you'll be sacrificing some low-mid range. If you're looking for a sled to pull off the trailer and do some drag racing or speed runs the gates belt is perfect, if you want something that's gonna perform spot on every time you're wide open on a 150 mile ride, hard to beat the 8dn.

Stud I ran the gates belt all summer and learned that you have to tune your clutches to the belt when they are warm. If you readjust your clutching for the loss in rpm all of the quickness will come back. The belt is definitely stickier than an 8 DN. But if tuned when warm it is very consistent, equal to or better than the 8dn. Just my 2 cents from asphalt racing. I plan on running it this winter and don't see any reason for the results to change. NOS-PRO ran it last winter with I believe the same findings. Overall clutch temps were less with the gates belt also.

We're you adjusting for belt deflection when warm or doing weight adjustments? I'm new to clutch tuning so I'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect.

Thanks for the info, I'll try both and see how they work for me.

Adjusting for rpm. Weights.

As Shagman has mentioned..... Both him and I ran the Gates belt this last season of racing. Both of us went out and warmed up the belt, suspension and engine before making a pass down the track. The rpms were so consistent....even more than the 8DN. The 8DN did rev more, but that is the difference, the gates belt grabs more. Cold clutches, dust or some snow will make the belt slip just a little bit.

I ran the gates belt for awhile on trail last year and of course....you never want to do any full runs on a cold engine. Your main area of riding will be trail or off-trail. For the guys ice and snow racing...they usually put their sleds on the cleanout stand to make sure everything is working and the sled is warmed up. By the time your engine is at temperature and your out playing....your belt should be at the temperature you need.

From all the testing done, Lonn at Thunder Products, Shagman and I have gone thru countless hours of testing to make sure your kit will be very close if not spot on when you receive the kit from Thunder Products. Will it be right on with everybody? Probably not....but we are here to assist everyone if questions arise. I encourage everyone to give me a little feedback to how your sled is performing so we can get the most out of your sled. Right now, videos are surfacing and a friend on FB posted over 72mph in 450ft. on grass with the Big Venom kit. Turbo sleds with other clutching were only 2-3mph over that....so the kit has major grunt. My Viper got a best of 17.4mpg last trail season, over 110mph on a perfectly hardpacked trail and an average of 103-105 on most other snow and ice conditions with an average of consisent low 11's at the track with a best of 10.988 @ 112.36mph in the 1/4mile on asphalt....but my sled has some bolt on mods. Will have another sled to setup in the next week, someone who I ride with everytime I go to the UP. He rides all the time and will be giving me feedback on mpg, longevity of how the belt wears and all around performance :)

Currently working on a video to show how and when to adjust your Heavy Hitter clutch weights. This video will have on snow tests showing different spots where the rev limiter hits/or bogging and how to adjust the weights to keep your sled at the best performance. Stay turned :)

do thunder products make a kit for a nytro as will.

Yes they do apexgturbo :)

Just called Thunder Products and they mentioned for you to call them with your specifics...(turbo, naturally aspirated, airbox mod....etc...)
