Because the exhaust points out the backI think you're missing what we're saying. This Sidewinder has NO noise. While standing behind Sidewinder & Apex both running, the Apex was louder at idle than the the Winder at over 3000 rpm's.

I know we had the trail cut across our farm. Key word had, when delicate crops got tore out my Dad had enough. Stick to trails. Even signed areas were getting rode all over. I'm all for a bit louder of a sled but there comes a point when your ears are.ringing riding it is too loud.I have never Seen it happen! A loud sled is past house in a few seconds but when a sled goes off trail and destroys crops that cost the land owner money!

when you ride 500 miles in a day, the slightly loud becomes painfull and obnoxious and for everybody else also...

First: I for one love a good sounding exhaust. Cars, Trucks, Bikes, Sleds and so on. But loud exhausts on sleds do CLOSE trails.
I had my local club trail from my house closed a few years back do to this. Trail crossed the road just a few houses from me and had to go between two houses very close to the trail. At 1am or later I could hear the sleds with cans/ pipes cross the road and then wack the throttle hard going between the houses. Next season trail was gone do to land owner noise issues. Now I have to either trailer or illegally ride a renegade trail to get to the local club trail.
We now live in a world that trails are being taking away by tree huggers due to emissions let alone noise. PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY.
Like I said before. I'm all for a good sounding exhaust. But Please Keep the DB's down.

Yep. and be mindful of other people. There is no need to ride like a total tool past houses AND people stopped on the side of the trails. (of course this is less common with Yamaha's then with the other brands)

WOW! I really stirred the pot this time. First of all, 4-strokes with cans or whole exhaust are a COMPLETELY different animal than a piped 2-smoke. The only Apex i heard that was obnoxious was a Hauck. We heard it in mountains 20 minutes after he left us. Secondly, riding off the marked trail or being a jerk near population is also going to hurt us. THE MORAL of the post: 1) A little extra 4-stroke noise is ok 2) stay on marked trails 3) don't be a jerk, have some respect for landowners 4) eat more meat & less veggies or you'll be shitting a lot like MR Sled...

Either way I applaud this site for letting members voice their opinion without mods prematurely shutting a thread down like some forums.

Maybe time has come to but hour limits on trails? Why would anybody with a brain ride at 2 am past people house and then wonder why trails are closed? 2nd nothing good happens at 2 am but drunk riders!

This is what you are going to see..... more states checking loud exhausts.
I am one of those who like to run a performance muffler, sound great and make hpr all at the same time....but do it legally. It can be done!!!! The DNR gave my SW thumbs up as it passed DNR decibel standards. Last season my Viper passed Michigan's checkpoint. This is why I have put my trust in the Evolution Powersports Magnum muffler.

There are a few of us that ride very early in the morning.
And no.....I don't tip any back until the sleds are parked for the night.

I'm going Turbo Dynamics Turbo force on mine. I had their pipe on my 12-13 and 16 Turbos. Quality is top notch and gains are good!

I have one on mine now. It is by no means obnoxious. Not saying it will pass sound checks , but it will be closer then you think. If your going to run this muffler and be pissed if you get pinched then you ordered the wrong can from TD. Its the chance you take running this stuff. If YOU ARE hot dogging it and hammering the pi88 out of it around houses or at night or around stopped people along trail then you got it coming.I'm going Turbo Dynamics Turbo force on mine. I had their pipe on my 12-13 and 16 Turbos. Quality is top notch and gains are good!
Nice deep tone!
