Any one else notice the track hitting the rear shock??? I've got an RTX with 144 studs and have chunks missing from the center of the track due to the track slapping the shock. not a problem for long tracks as they have pads next to the shock the track rides over. Looks like not enough clearance on the short tracks.

Seems this problem is common with those that have studded thier tracks. Both myself and my buddy have GT's, no studs and no even a scratch on the inside of the track above the shock.

There are lots of other threads on this.
If you're carefull with the studs and make sure they are well torqued (I'm running then just under 20 ft-lbs) as well as running straight backers (not angled) there isn't a problem.
I have just under 2500 kms on this season with 144 studs and no problems. The track/shock do rub a little (same as last season - unstudded).
I'm running the Woodys 144 pre-punched pattern which has a pair of studs right in the middle every 6th pitch.

I noticed the same thing on all my past sleds, all were studded.

I never gave it a second thought until I read some posts here. I also run my tracks a bit tight so I never have any ratching.

Apparently you missed the part about the chunks missing because i don't think you would let that slide on a new sled that you paid 10G for! i do not have studs in the center of the track at all, i stayed 3/4 inch to each side of center and have no damage to the shock body only my track. I do not feel this is acceptable as i should be to stud the track if i want to without clearance problems. My track does not rachet and check it's tension frequently, and i do not think you should have to run it like a guitar string.

I guess I shouldn't say there isn't a problem - more like if everything is done right it isn't a common problem.
Last season I did have a few areas on the track that were worn and sliced through to the cords by the shock/shock mounting bracket (by about 5,500 kms). I wasn't running studs.
I wasn't happy about it, but at the same time it didn't seem to affect the structural integrity or performance of the track. My dealer told me Yamaha wouldn't do anything about it. At about 9,100 kms the track was severely damaged after the front pivot arm failed. Yamaha still wouldn't do anything about the track (I paid for a new one).
Something doesn't sound right with your sled. I wouldn't expect chunks to be missing from lightly rubbing the shock.
Is the weight transfer rod attached properly? When they come loose/apart they do punch holes in the track.

Transfer rod is in place aand working fine. Talked to dealer today and yamaha will not do anything because of the studs. Dealer also tried to tell me that moving the limiter strap affects the clearence. the damage occured before i moved the limiter up 1 hole. I moved it back to stock because there was too muck ski pressure. I guess i will have to call yamaha myself. I'm not real concerned about the damage that is there however i would like to prevent any further damage.

I have a Apex ER (121") and at this time only 250 miles on it, no studs and have added a 4th wheel kit. I haven't changed the limiter strap position.

Had the dealer look at it and was told it is normal, and they looked at a few other sleds they had in for service and they looked similar.
