what do you do to prevent ice build up under the tunnel and then it causes over heating? does adding the mountain heat exchanger solve the over heating issue?

I had problems with my 08 Nytro running hot all the time so I installed the MTX exchanger and the problem was corrected. The only time I ever see the temp light come on now is if I let it idle to long. Installing a tunnel close off plate like the schmidt bros will help a little with tunnel icing but not enough. Installing an aluminum plate to the tunnel protector will eliminate the icing problem. I have both plates installed.

do you just screw a plate to the heat exchanger? how long? to bad it's 1 outside a foot of powder and I'm over heating

The tunnel plate started out as a 2' x 3' sheet of .05" aluminum that at purchased from McMaster Carr. I cut and bent it to fit between the tunnel protectors and used rivets to secure it. If your overheating in conditions that you normally would not I'd being looking at other problems like the fan not running or plugged cooling system. Have you serviced your cooling system? Yamaha recommends changing the coolant yearly. When I was running hot it was normally in low snow conditions and warmer temps.

i had the same issue with my sled last weekend. I was -18 Celsius with fresh couple inches of snow and my waring temp light came on (or has someone on here put "having too much fun light") so i ordered a heat exchanger kit from my local dealer, which should be in today. I got it for $240 canadian for the whole kit, which i thought was a pretty good deal. I hope it solves my issue.......

I just had a problem with my light coming on and all coolant levels were ok. Fan was also working fine. Took it to the dealer. They replaced the spark plugs, said one looked bad and that can cause things to read wrong. One fuse looked ok but was actually bad and it was getting a high amount of ohm's (I think). The sled had never gotten hot but it was causing the light to come on.

I added the block off plate from oft and the heat exchanger from van amberg. This fixed 95% of the icing issue and had no over heating issues. Their heat exchanger is a pain to install, but the exchanger cover the whole rear area where ice builds up and melts it off. Instead of being like yamaha where the exchanger is just on the sides. Price was pretty good also . You can see the pics on ulmer racings fb page fyi of the install.

do they have dealers on Mars now? seems a little far to go for service

Here is why I like mine. All of the heat exchangers out there go down the sides, but do all cover the back where the ice builds up? Nope... As you can see between the OFT cover, and my exchanger it only can gather a bit on the rails

My sled tended to get warm in crappy hard trail conditions and I did two things to solve it. Buy a step drill bit and drill holes on the plastic that holds the gauge. The step drill bit makes it so it looks nice, but the roest vent kit looks even nicer. Half a bottle of water wetter. After I did this, my buddys temp lights went on before mine everytime.

My question is why do some seem to have a problem and others such as myself have never ever seen so much as a temp light. I have rode this sled in some really warm conditions and low snow and the light is still phantom to me. What could cause such a variation from sled to sled
?
