Just an update on my intake .... I've gotten a couple hundred miles on the setup now and everything is working great. AFRs are still the same so I haven't changed any settings on the GEMs. If the AFRs have changed, it's too small of a change for me to notice. Watching the intake air temp shows the fresh air has dropped. For a day with temps in the teens, the intake air temp consistently shows about 28 deg F. Fuel mileage doesn't seem to have changed.
It was mentioned earlier in the thread that I may now hear more intake noise .... WOW - yes, you can hear it clear as day. I run a snowcross helmet, so I will inherently hear more. At no boost, you can hear the intake growl just like as if you had an aftermarket silencer. Once the boost comes on, it sounds like an industrial vacuum cleaner inside a tornado! Sounds like it will suck the color right off your jacket. And when you get off the throttle, you can hear the wastegate open and bleed off the pressure. I really didn't think I would hear as much as I do. With my closed-faced helmet, it isn't nearly as noticeable.
Here's one thing I didn't expect with this mod .... The sled seems to start better. I have the original factory 2015 flash. Warm or cold, the sled starts quicker. Even at -10 deg F (inside the trailer overnight that reached -20 deg F) it started on the second try. But I also did install a new battery this year, so that may have something to do with it.
So my run down is this:
Pros - nice clean install using mostly stock available parts; no more clutch dust getting into the intake; stealth; nice cold intake charge; starts better (maybe because of battery); likely more hp (but too little to really notice)
Cons - noise; no real noticeable hp increase or improvement in fuel mileage; getting the hood on/off is now even more difficult than before
Is this mod a must do? - No
Is this mode a nice-to-do? - Yes
