Ultimax is inconsistent on team clutches

There is no coil bind on the stock Yellow at 3&3. No need to worry about it. Just don't wrap it any tighter because then there is bind.
Mine is coil binding at 3&3 stock srx needs machining plus it will give you a little od and add mph ,3&3 is the least i can run it without minimal engine braking slip

Stock SRX spring is the Apex pink spring. The Yellow was used in pre 2019 Winders. The pink spring is quite a bit weaker in torsion and compression than the yellow.

If you can hold your hands on your secondary you ARE NOT robbing speed because of to much tension.
Jon he said the TAPP was as cool as could be, but the secondary was warm... Could keep his hands on it. I know it's totally subjective without knowing actual temps, but don't you think a big discrepancy in those temps points to an inefficient secondary? I know when I wrap up the secondary spring a bit too much it robs some speed. Sure does backshift though!

No problem. I agree a big difference in temps could point to a problem. Is the TAPP pulling the belt right on through the secondary at certain times? Because he doesn’t have enough side pressure. Or is the secondary pressure to tight. Certainly could go either way with tension and test to see which way it needs to go. He is out of balance SLIGHTLY one way or another.

And the pink spring DOES coil bind before the Yellow does by quite a bit.

The Yellow DOES NOT coil bind at 3&3 using a 8JP or the XS belt, and wouldn't even come close on a 8DN to coil bind. I've tested all the springs in both Winder clutches and Viper button clutch on the winder.

The TAPP shifts so aggressively I don't doubt that it may be blowing through the secondary. I am going back to a stiffer secondary spring and will test tomorrow.

Not familiar with the TAPP. I was just trying to point out that it can go both ways. I think one of the issues with the sidewinder stock clutches is we have so many guys running different helixes and springs. And now the TAPP. I have been all over with this secondary tension also. I was a touch to soft now I’m probably a touch to much. Lol. Happy testing!

Mike do you have a part number for the yellow spring? What are your thoughts on machining .050" off helix and secondary?I like the way the pink spring works, i never machined anything yet but wanted to next week.

After riding today, this TAPP definatly needs more secondary spring than the stock clutch. It blows right through the white (cat green) secondary spring. I have tried to remove weight from the primary and run a lighter secondary spring but it just does not preform like the heavier set ups.
I tried to run the lighter components--I understand the concept--the better efficiency--I wanted it to work, but with the TAPP it just likes the stiffer spring in the secondary.

Now that I'm back with the Winder roller secondary, I'm finding the same thing trying to get some speed out of it today on my road, it can't do it with light springs. I now have black marks down in the secondary again. Even with the Ultimax XS. WTH is with this roller secondary that it can't run lighter secondary springs? Going to try wrapping up the torsion higher on the Dalton B/O and see if I can get it with that before getting crazy with springs again.

Mike, have you tried the button secondary with the Winder primary?

Not yet, but it'd be an easy swap in. Going to try tomorrow wrapping up the Dalton B/O tighter and tighter. Today I had the Stock Yellow in and its not enough at 3&3. I know I have no speed if I set the secondary too light with that damm roller secondary. I hate to go back to the super stiff Cat secondary springs. Thought I had this under control with the XS belt, maybe not yet. Perhaps now that my XS is getting some miles on it, its going away or something.

try the dalton b/o at 6-2 with the xs belt vs 8jp belt , or the dalton b/tan at 3-2 , on a 35 helix
