try the dalton b/o at 6-2 with the xs belt vs 8jp belt , or the dalton b/tan at 3-2 , on a 35 helix
I've got my first version B/O wrapped up right now at 6&2 and the XS belt on ready for tomorrow, I've drilled extra holes in the stock 35 in 5 degree increments, so I can wrap up by 5 degrees also.

would u have a 8jp belt to compare against the xs ? we found last season the xs is a great belt , supper clean , but slow speeds vs the 8jp belt ,I've got my first version B/O wrapped up right now at 6&2 and the XS belt on ready for tomorrow, I've drilled extra holes in the stock 35 in 5 degree increments, so I can wrap up by 5 degrees also.

what spring r u thinking will work ?After riding today, this TAPP definatly needs more secondary spring than the stock clutch. It blows right through the white (cat green) secondary spring. I have tried to remove weight from the primary and run a lighter secondary spring but it just does not preform like the heavier set ups.
I tried to run the lighter components--I understand the concept--the better efficiency--I wanted it to work, but with the TAPP it just likes the stiffer spring in the secondary.

Yes, was swapping them back and forth today. Don't see a bit of MPH difference on my road. RPM is quite a bit higher on the 8JP vs. the XS, but I'm not tapping the gears out yet either.

I personally don’t like wrapping my springs past 70 degrees, instead I will use a stiffer spring like the Cat green and wrap it around 40 degrees. I still think it’s better to use helix angle to control the shift tho. I see Dalton has some new low finish angle helixes in the lineup. Something like a 37/33 and all your weight up in the tip. This would probably allow you to run the black/orange at 60~70 degrees without slipping up top. The weight would be tucked more in the tip making the 37 start feel about the same as the 35 down low. Midrange should load the motor similar if not a tad harder too.
You could actually probably pull a gram cause those Dalton’s really push down low.
Or just try the Cat green with a 40 wrap?

I haven't even been on the sled once this year due to work and conditions around these parts, but my set up last year rocked with the 45/33 helix. Ran 118 on the GPS on the lake with 10 inches of fresh powder with the 8DN.
I just don't trust the damn stock primary. It's a ticking time bomb.

mike take a look at the dalton black /tan , I'm currently using it with a 35 helix , I'm liking it so far ,I've got my first version B/O wrapped up right now at 6&2 and the XS belt on ready for tomorrow, I've drilled extra holes in the stock 35 in 5 degree increments, so I can wrap up by 5 degrees also.

That was my next step. Are you using it on the XS belt?
Everything has changed for trying to clutch to that belt for me now.

I used the xs last season with the black / tan at 8800-8900 rpm , this season with my same clutch set up as last season I have now put a 8jp and seeing 9200-9400 rpm , which I'm assuming you seeing the same results , I purchased a Tapp clutch and will be trying to work with the xs / 8jp to see were it puts me , right now the condition r not great , once they r ill report back , the xs belt requires a different set up vs the 8jp for sure ,That was my next step. Are you using it on the XS belt?

I think ambient temps may be playing a role in some of these numbers also. If you start out in the morning at 15 degrees and by 2 o'clock its 36degrees, your clutch temps and rpm's will change.
So got a chance to jump on the sled today. Last year's gas so after some octane boost and some fresh 91 didn't want to beat the snot out of it. Went from the 8dn of last season back to the Ultimax 825 with the 45/33 helix black lime spring and HH at 79 grams. Sled felt great and hit good revs on the 240 and 270 tunes and I think it would Probly be in the 8800 rpm range of I ran the 300 tune. . For the first time ever I had a cooler secondary than primary under normal trail riding conditions. Temps evened out once I got on the lake and let it run out a bit, but still seemed reasonable on both sides. Primary has the big venom orange in it.
