Servicing the Upper Idlers can be a real chore.
To simplify this task, remove the paint from the shaft.
The upper idler bearing was designed to be an interference fit. The painted shaft makes it a press fit.
Removing the paint returns the bearing to an interference fit as designed.
Servicing, or replacing, is now much less of a core.

Thank you Sir!

Does this method work regardless of skid? Yamaha Viper or Sidewinder?

Yes. Works on any ProCross skid. Yamaha or Artic.

Great but what do I use to get them off the first time? A standard bearing puller would wreck the wheels.

Best way is with the proper puller like pictured in the beginning of the video.Great but what do I use to get them off the first time? A standard bearing puller would wreck the wheels.
Better yet is to borrow that puller. Last time you'll need it.
Dealer may pull it off for you. About a 5 minute job with the right puller.
Takes more time to take the tool out, and put away, than it does to pull the wheels.
Trying a 3 jaw, on the wheel, doesn't work. Don't even try.
Some attempt the punch & hammer method from the back side. Key is to only hit the inner bearing race.
Sometimes it works. Most times ends in disaster.
A 3 jaw puller will work if the wheel is removed. However this is pulling on the outer race. I will not trust a bearing removed in this way.
If bearing is being replaced, then any method is fine. Even cutting it off. Provide it doesn't damage the shaft of course.

I have pulled the skid apart and placed the assembly in the shop press with two 1/2" plates sandwiching the upper idler wheel.
Very civilized but is more work for sure to take the rear skid scissor apart. But - "if you're in for a penny"......
I also have a length of pipe used to drive the new bearing (gently) back on the shaft. Works great.
