Here's an idea for anybody who is aprehensive of this change:
GET BETTER GLOVES!
I have a bigger problem when it gets that cold keeping my neck warm! I don't even think of my hands much.
Nate
If you want to be warm all over you could always install a large windshield.
Last night it was almost -30C out so I decided to go for a test ride around midnight to see how well my warmers worked. My hands were toasty warm with the warmers set at 5 bars and the thumb at 6 bars. On high my hands were burning hot (very uncomfortably hot) after about 15 minutes. Even after stopping and letting my hands and gloves get very cold (gloves froze up while I had them off) they were back to toasty after about 20 minutes.
I too would be leary of doing this modification. I know no-one seems to be having any trouble yet, but if you crank them up your definitely running the system with far more load than it was designed for. There might be some sort of overload protection circuit that is keeping things in check, but who knows...?
With the large windshield and the handlebar pad my hands, kneck, face, etc. are very warm and I doubt I'll even need to use my gauntlets down to -40C. To me this is a more complete and safer solution (although "less cool").

^^^^ Especially the post this quote came from ^^^^^^ .........LOLYou can disregard this entire thread
See my posts on pages 12 & 15 for the information you really need
...
hey guys...I just wanted to clarify that when i said "disregard this entire thread" I was aiming this at the previous post who was getting confused about what to do,probably cause the thread has gone all over the place with wiring ideas ect ect...I just wanted HIM to know the simple way to plug it in,so he wouldnt be so confused...
I never meant for everyone to disregard the entire thread for its very useful content...there is much in these many pages that can be learned here, and I along with you all have learned alot too....I just wanted that one person to see how easy it was to hookup without all the technical stuff in these pages.
Im sure many of you have read the other post about the apparent bulleting from yamaha on this issue...I have not seen the bulletin yet and I really hope someone can post it here on TY,so we can clarify exactly how its worded...
IMO,i like the MOD to the bars..i like my hands hot,and truly was sick of getting frostbite every ride, even after spending the cash on new 07 bars they were no better then last year.I tried to always specify how hot these get and tried to make everyone aware that you MUST keep them below half or even down to 1 bar,as they get very hot...I never meant for anyone to wrecklessly do this mod without KNOWING EXACTLY what the bars will do...which is why i always stated how HOT they get...
I guess i just thought it was common sense to turn them down when too hot,as most people would do intuitively...they do heat up quickly so you will be turning them down ASAP far before any issues...
Due to the fact yamaha apparently has a bulletin out on this...and it may or may not cause issues to some major components on your sled...I am going to highly recommend you READ the apparent bulletin FIRST before you do the MOD to bars.
If after you read the bulletin, and you still feel OK with this mod, then by all means try it...you will be ON YOUR OWN most likely IF you have any issues with the CPU...
I dont want to ENCOURAGE or DISCOURAGE anyone from doing this MOD to bars...I simply posted this cause I tried it and tested it now for 2 weeks, and it works well...my hands are now hot and I have no problems,I have spoke to approx 20 others who are also running this MOD to bars with no issues..
as with any MOD we do to our sleds,we ALL MUST know that this is a MOD!..its may or may not work...it COULD cause problems which may NOT be covered under warrantee...DO ANY MODS AT OWN RISK!
I hope this clarifies my stand on this issue...I dont want ANYONE to have a problem with their sled...I just wanted to let you all know My hands were warm...I always have posted anything ive done to my sled, and Im not afraid to be the "guinie pig"..lol....
you guys all know me well enough to know Ill be the first one to post if i have problems....
enjoy the winter boys!

I think if you feel a little nervous, then wait to see if Yamaha fixes them for 08 and tough it out for another year. This is complete B**&^%$, since they never worked worth a #*$&@ in 06, they are little better in 07, but still not up standards. My wifes stock 01 600 MXZ blows these junk UPDATED bars away. Yamaha needs to fix this ONCE AND FOR ALL.

Freak, you are sooooo right!.....i was so tired of my fingers getting frostbite I was willing to do anything to get em warm....Hopefully this thread, and the attention its got(good or bad) will result in yammie finally realizing the 07 fix is not worth a damn...
great post!

My gloves must be really warm because I find the 07 bars hot if they're cranked up.

Talked to a guy that has a PhD in electrical engineering. Asked him if a DC/DC converter or Voltage Regulator or Resistor/s would be the way to go here and his reply was:
"Just don't turn them up past 3 or 4 bars".......(24watts each)
I laughed and said.."crazy as it may seem I was thinking the same thing"
So mach, every time I have "happy hands", meaning nice & toasty warm I'll be thinking of you...(NOT in Brokeback Mountain sorta way)......LOL

Good work guys and welcome back Mach. Now we just need to figue out how to add a resistor? I am trying my 06 bars with 07 wires this weekend and I will post how they performed.

Hey, theres an idea. Last I knew, I didn't need an electrical degree to figure this crap out. My upgrade wasn't much of an upgrade I guess.

Good thing you did not ask him to go riding/fishing in the mountains. LMAO
Hey Dan saw the bulletin today i love the first sentence THE GENUISES ON THE INTERNET HAVE FOUND AWAT TO ........... LOL too funny anyway they put in bold letters they will NOT BE COVERING CLAIMS TO COMPUTERS WITH MODDED HANDLEBAR WARMERS the last sentence though has me concerned they still claim there is nothing wrong with handlebar warmers and if the customer is complaining they are to bring it to dealer and have power checked to bars if they are still not satisfied i cant remeber them excact wording but along the lines of too bad soo sad LOL yikes

Alright Yammy, what is the proper voltage going to the handlebars?? Is there a TSB on the procedure for checking this? My dealer has no clue.
