Want HOT hands?..It can be done!!! EDITED FIRST POST

you guys looking to unload the 07 bars for what you paid for them? anyone? or do I need the 06 bars to get my controls on?

Has any one installed the 06 bars on a 04 or 05? If so how do you hook up the wires? I am thinking of installing the 06 Nitro bars on the 04 with risers.

thanks nice rumble, but a friend here in town actually gave me a set a few weeks back. thanks for the offer though!!

Got a call from my dealer as he knows I run the 06's with the 07 hookup. He called to tell me to take it off now! I got the same words many of you did about Yamaha stating it "WILL" melt the ECU.

Honestly it scares the crap out of me. No one wants to be 200 miles away and have their sled not start.

I just do not see gauntlets as an option so it looks like I will continue to take my chances.... :o|

On a brighter note I have rode 2,184 miles with the bar "fix", I hope it continues to work.

This handlebar fix came from NOS-DAN and posted on this site. That means that if someone has done the mod they probably learned about it from TY and they are probably a member. So I would think if someone did have a problem with the mod they would post about it here. I think that Yamaha and/or your dealer are just covering their butts incase something does go wrong. JMO

This handwarmer topic has been on my mind since last winter, and I have just been sitting back watching, waiting to see what shakes-out. Just for the heck of it, I called my dealer to see what was up. They knew nothing of any fix for the 07's of course, but I tell you, our 07's grip warmers still suck.

From what I can tell, the modification Yammi is worried about is 06 sleds running 06 bars with an 07 wiring harness pulling too much current through the ECU. Is this correct?

What would I do with my 07? Buy 06 bars?

Yes the amperage draw is the concern. The 06 bars with the 07 jumper harness changes the resistance thus increasing the amp draw through the ECU and wiring. It is recommended not to run the warmers past 4 bars to keep the draw down when using this mod. Actually the warmer circuit has a pulse voltage. Meaning that the voltage to the grips is switched on and off. The switching of the voltage on and off has a longer pause when on the lower setting and shorter pause when on high. Even though the amps and voltage are the same at the low and high settings there is a pause in the voltage at the lower settings that gives the ECU and wiring a short break before the next pulse of electricity. I would not like to make a recommendation on what you should do to your sled but I and many others have run this mod without any problems what so ever. As with any un-approved manufacturer modification, it’s done at your own risk.

Good info on the pulses.

Do I need 06 bars to do this mod?

I gotta do something, not for me as bad, but the wife has an 07 Attak as well, and her hands are cold, to the point of not having a good time. We wear good gloves BTW. I brought her over from Polaris. Her 02 XC had great hot grips...........

I've been half-tempted to wire the damn grips through a rheostat to the battery, maybe hacking into one of the relays so they go off with the sled.

Has anyone tried resistors yet in the wires to each grip? That would work to increase the resistance of each mini-circuit (each loop of the parallel circuit) and lower the amperage draw simply by ohm's law. Anyone try this yet?

Just kept mine on about 2 bars all season and no issues....and so far everone on here who took my advice and did this MOD,has been very happy without any issues whatsoever...

last season was cold too,so im imagining a more normal temp season we will probably need to turn them OFF alot...lol

wont be long till are riding once again!

PS:
yep another new screename, check out the new Harley in avatar...its a 08 V-rod!
