Those are great words when not meant sarcastically. Let's just slam the guy a few times and then tell him he's awesome

I see why Rob at HCS sold out!!
Why? Is this conversation(thread) upsetting you? We are all being nice to each other, no name calling, etc!!! This is not a HCS Hardcoresledder Forum type thread. No bashing here. It is obvious Yammy is reading this and it has upset someone. Time for a reality check on their part.
Get a grip MrSled!!!!!! AND regardless!
agreed. what's the problem here? none.

What the hell is going on here with some of the members? This is not YAMAHA why dont you all take that same energy and turn it to where it should go YAMAHA. Frankly I am tired of this crap on this thread and I am going to LOCK this thread for good. Way to go Steve should have started hitting the ban button earlier. This has been beaten to death people go to your local dealer and register a complaint with Yamaha. LOCKED
So as not to punish everyone for a few the thread will be unlocked so the members behaving themselves can discuss and find a fix for their problem.

Comparison of grip power over the years
With a number of you (and my buddies) commenting that I should be complaining that my 07 RTX's bars are cold I decided to do a little comparison over the RX and Apex years to see how things compare. I hadn't heard of any complaints with RX warmers. Most found the RX grips good down to about -35C in most situations and about -25 to -30C for cruising on long straight trails at higher speeds.
RX-1: Grip resistance 1.7Ω (spec is apparently 1.53Ω to 1.87Ω), wired in series ("spec" taken from: http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?t=33906)
06 Apex: Grip resistance 2.3Ω (looking at the history of posts on this topic they have been measured anywhere between 2.2Ω and 2.5Ω), wired in series
07 Apex: Grip resistance 6.8Ω (based on Got Apex RTX's post), wired in parallel
With roughly 14V available and assuming the PWM (pulse width modulation) output of the ECU approaches full power at cruising speeds we get:
RX-1: 28.8 Watts each grip
06 Apex: 21.3 Watts each grip
06 update/07 Apex: 28.8 Watts each grip
The 06 Apex compared to the RX-1 has a smaller windshield, taller bars, ~30% less heat, less handlebar insulation (no large handlebar pad), and aluminum hooks bolted on the end of the bars so it makes sense that its not as warm.
With my 07 RTX I installed a large windshield (bigger than the RX-1 and this compensates for the taller bars - less exposure), a more traditional (Yamaha accessory) large handlebar pad and the bars are producing the same heat as the RX-1. With it, the only potential downside is the bar has a larger exposed area from the hooks which will take away some heat. With the larger windshield keeping my whole body out of the wind and looking at the numbers I'm not surprised that I don't find the bars cold at all. Personally I like the hooked handlebars enough that if they lost a little bit of heat they'd be worth it to me.
I guess you guys have 4 options:
1. Wire up the 06 bars in parallel (and risk blowing the ECU).
2. Add auxiliary heaters as Kevin at Port Yamaha suggests (~$30 plus a little work).
3. Install a tall windshield and possibly a large handlebar pad (~$120 - IMO, this is the ticket for long distance cruising as your body and even your head is out of the wind).
4. Tough it out and/or find some extremely good gloves to wear.
For the coldest weather with the as shipped Apex setup I think you really need about 50 Watts available per grip for cruising to be comfortable (hands at least...). The auxiliary heaters will give you that (with 06 or 07 bars wired per Yamaha).

awesome post and right on
I think they shot for RX-1 but rider forward was a chilling set back with existing CPU capacity. No way to get the big watts without breaking the bank either for a fix. Tough situation that I will solve for myself, like you did, or with the Port parts.

Problem is were all hanging out here when we should be out riding. I would be except for the lack of one thing, snow. Maybe Oswego, NY could share some of their 7 feet with the rest of us.
