WARNING!!! 08 Yamaha Nytro spindle broken!!

The spindles are not cast, they are extruded and are likely made from 6061 T6. Which can be reinforced/welded. The problem is removing all the paint or anodizing. I believe they are only painted.

Welding aluminum is not always straightforward. The welding process itself is easy enough but the results may not be what one expects. With exposure to the high the temperatures of welding, material in the region of the weld will lose the properties induced by the T6 or T4 tempering process (assuming the material used for the spindle is, in fact, 6061). Without subsequent controlled heat treating of the component to restore these properties this material will be in a significantly weaker state (near T0, and with much lower tensile and yield strengths but higher elasticity) than existed prior to the weld. Plus, this does not take into account other factors that may have compromised the weld integrity, such as, voids and contamination caused by paint, oxides, or oils on or in the base material.

Welding such a critical component shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Okay so what is different on the 09 spindles? When we saw a SE at show my buddy said the spindles looked different but I couldnt see anything.

I got some pics of the front and rear susp. on the S.E.. Problem is they were taken on my buddies camera. :o| So I wont have them until Mon. Anyone else got any pics?

You guy's need some of these. My brother made these for ovel racing. The ones on the 07 phazer last year bent after the 2nd race on hard ice. He renforced the phazer's with a plate on the out side, but still bent. He had to weld a bar up the middle to keep it strate. So when he got the 08 Nytro, he made his own out of 7075 aluminum, and he shorten them up for ovel racing to get lower. I think he could shave a little more off to get them a little lighter, but they don't bend :jump:

OK, I'll bite. What's ER? Are you volunteering your brother to start building these?

yeah, I would have lit up my dealer like a christmas tree!!!!

Simple economics...is that spindle on my sled (that you have parts for, and or even a new sled sitting there with it on it), worth losing two quads, one Rhino, and a kids quad, and 1 sled in last 3 years worth losing my business for?

ER is for Eichenberg (Ikenberg) Racing. He shoud, but he doesn't have time or a CNC to make them. Belmont Engineering was going to make some for the Nytro, but they wanted $1000.00 to make them. Like they did with the RX-1 and Apex.

or just slap these on, and no issues...

BTW, have a WHOLE stock front end kit, new less than 160 miles on them...no damage, no dents dings anything...just wont use them after installing the TImbersled Barkbuster front end kit...oh yeah, and saves 9 lbs.

I was wondering if you can post these pics that you have?

At our area sled show, they didn't have the SE out on the floor. It was in a trailer without the shocks.

Much appreciated.

The race-vs-stock 08 and a pic of 09 spindles.

Did anyone happen to pay close attention to the front shock position between the a arms on the 09 FX Nytro ? I'm curious to see it myself so I can compare it to my own, especially being these are all brand new sleds with 0 miles on them. Perhaps someone should take a real close look next time they come across one, I'm sure there's a lot of folks on here who are interested in hearing a report. Thanks ;)!
