WARNING!!! 08 Yamaha Nytro spindle broken!!

No, of coarse it's not worthless but I would like to see pics. I don't doubt that the spindles are reinforced for the racers as many parts of the sled typically are. Look at the tunnel on Robbies sled from last year. With that I do feel that a spindle should NEVER fail without impact. In fact the A-Arm box frame should fail before the spindle does. Steering is something you shouldn't be without it's an obvious safety issue. Which is why we ALL want to see pics.

the left spindle on my wifes sled looks similar to that picture but is not that bad. i ordered another to replace it for saftey and to restore the proper camber angle to the ski.

just wondering since there is an issue with bushings wearing out if that doesnt create some slop and make hits or impact on the spindle wind up being magnified

snowmanx, I'm glad your ok. Jeepers, this could have happen to anyone of us. Not to sound like an #*$&@ Snowmanx, but I hope this is just a isolated incident. I'd hate to make my wife a widow at such and early age, and lets not forget about my 2 daughters.

Actually saw 94mph on the dream meter in the rough stuff. With that suspension setup right the faster you go the smoother it gets and doesnt fade or bottom. Fastest ive seen was 104 on Salmon River Road on the plowed part with ice on it. It had more!!!!

Yeah, that Salmon river road can get nasty. Acceleration is usually the answer to bottomin, even on the monoshocker..

Same place mine cracked/bent. I just think after a period of stress it fatigues and buckles. This is definatly a design and manufacturers flaw. He clearly didn't crank anything like a rock cause his subframe appears strait like mine.

Yamaha fix this before someone dies! PLEASE!

I second that last post. How long could this fix take. Thier are so many proven designs out there to work from, the engineers at yamaha should be able to make this happen. I ride WFO and would hate for this to happen in a bad situation. I love this thing, help us out Yamaha.

There are Soooooooo many possible sources of problems here. Could be poor aluminum, poor heat treat.....etc. To jump right to an engineering issue is premature. This is why it will take some time for Yamaha to examine failed parts and come up with a proper solution, if indeed there is a solution required. In short, relax a little and allow the systems in place to work the way they were designed.

If the issue is widespread enough, a safety re-call would/will be issued.

Has anybody measured the difference between the Doo spindle, and the Yamaha? I wonder they could be made to wor. I've never heard of a Doo spindle breaking.

It may be a good idea to have somebody weld a plate on the spindle to stiffen it up.
