It's just bad rods
You do know that a NA Race sled basicly cut the motor in half last season when one of the JUNK rods let loose? I would not even think of trying to ease anyones worries if they have a Turbo. But your call.
It is more than just rods. New rods will do nothing to solve detonation. Dealers are going to take a big hit just having to replace rods, so for a dealer to go above and beyond that to solve the underlying issue on their own dime tells me detonation is a real concern.
I agree 100% rods should be replaced. With season just around the corner, and no 16 turbo rods replaced yet, I am happy to share my findings with optimism that it may allow some guys to get some miles in while waiting for rod replacements!

Hey guys, here's a the latest from my dealer as of this morning
"Hi Jeff, I spoke to an RTA (Regional Tech Advisor) at Yamaha yesterday re. your
turbo and as of now they don't have the kits yet. He said he's expecting them
in the next week at which time they'll be detailed instructions on how to handle
the recall."
Hopefully, we'll see things start to move VERY soon...

I would wait for the letters and if sled is being recalled I would not ride it. They are under warranty and should qualify for rental reimbursement. Hopefully its a very small number of the 16.5 motors and hopefully they get whole engines so it doesnt take forever to get done and its done right. Everyone has been living with bad gas and detonation concerns forever. If the rod is good the piston is supposed to be the weak area.

If detonation, does the knock sensor correct it by reducing timing or other protection?

Was it modded in any way or stock?I have a late model 16.Just curious if any stock sleds have had rod failures.I haven't seen any posted here. How far can you push these engines?
Push it to the limit man. That's the beauty of a 4 stroke...you can hold it to the bar all day long! That's what your warranty is for. I used to constantly worry about my old 2 strokes. The thought doesn't even cross my mind out there...
My sled feels right at home to the max! Lol can't wait to feel that smooth engine pur again!
