Well, my season's over now

I would think if that was possible the Ski Doo guys with the countless fires from hot brakes would have done so, but I really have no idea.

....... and having people actually use the tether.

Running wasn't an issue at all........I hit the kill switch as soon as I hit the ground and could reach it.......

And I've had my 03 RX-1 and my 06 RS Nytro on their respective sides 80 ways from you_know_where and all it ever did was make them hard to restart..........

What the real shame is, is it usually takes a lawsuit to get the manufacturers to make the change and often times even the payout on that (which the lawyers get) it is still cheaper to not actually fix the problem.

Sorry to hear about your loss buddah, I am on Viper 2.0 myself this year after a pinned throttle to the fuel tank totaled Viper 1.0 early in the season. Fortunately I was left standing in the trail watching it run away and wasn't hurt.

I meant the rollover valve tether. It shuts off sled and closes off breather so oil can't get out. But still requires tether being used. I agree. Never had such a large amount of oil come out like my Viper did before rollover valve. Always smelled a little on Phazer though. Viper made a puddle on snow.

I had a thought ( I know, a rarity for me) while driving to Escanaba this morning.........curious to get some feedback.........has anybody considered a class action lawsuit against Yamaha/Cat over the design/placement of the oil reservoir? There's no way in H*ll a person should lose their sled to a simple rollover that barely went past 90 degrees unless it's a SERIOUS design flaw........and trust me, but for some scrambling on my part it would have been a total burn up......

Now before anybody accuses me of being a money-grabber (a charge which I really couldn't refute) I'm not looking for any damages but rather feel Yamaha/Cat should be FORCED to supply rollover valves with the sled if they insist on keeping this configuration..........

Opinions?

Just saying lawsuit you are asking for hurt... they have way more money then we do... beside if you put any sled upside down its going to leak more then oil.... GAS. You have insurance for a reason.. I would use it and move on.

Buddah, That's quite a story! Glad your all right man. That could have been a pile of ashes if not for your quick response. You know they say most accidents happen close to home and I am starting think that's true.

I had my sled sitting on its "right side" for a while and I can't say I noticed any oil leaking out. Which way does the sled have to be leaning, right or left side? Where does a fellow Viper rider pick up one of these "roll over valves"?

In my case it was on its left side, slightly past 90 degrees from upright...........it was on the side of a small hill/ridge......

The ironic thing is if I had hit this ridge going forward I would seen it and been leaning into it......as it was I was already leaning left trying to look over my left shoulder with helmet still on so when it tilted suddenly left, I was toast........almost........

Left side better than 90 degrees, upside down or on right side the check ball stops the oil.

Mine left a 3ft puddle when tipped on right side handlebar just touching snow. Ran about 5 seconds till I shut it off.

Had ours on the side numerous times. At least twice it sat there completely over for almost 10 minutes on the right. Never lost a drop or any sign on oil. I looked. Not saying it can't but I know it doesn't always happen. In my experience and others.
Lawsuit? I thought that was a joke until I realized it wasn't. I'll zip it now to avoid a rant. #$%&* Mr. Sled summed it up well.

Stingray, were you saying the check ball stops it on the right or left?

I just got the rollover valve and haven't had a problem since. Been over twice since first time and haven't lost any oil. I have no idea why it did the first time but it did. Is no way I would think of lawsuit since I believe all 4strokes and about all sleds can and will spill oil and gas if rolled. Maybe if they are running is what makes the problem? It took almost a full qt of oil to get mine back to top.

Mine was running every time it was rolled. Engine shut off on it's own except once when I hit the kill switch first.

Right side oil goes away from vent, check ball stops oil upside down. On the left side past 90 degrees or so it goes out the vent.
