I'm trying Shell Rotella T5 0w40. This is my first 4 stroke sled, but I've been running the Rotella T6 (10w40) in my track bike for years. It's one of the cheapest synthetics out there, and I Don't notice any difference compared to the ultra expensive ones like Motul or Repsol. It's even cheaper if you can get it states side - $25/gal.
I hear amsoil is good too, but I've had really bad experiences with it in my old 2 strokes. Different oil, I know, but it turned me off the brand.

Be careful what you ask for. LOL! Asking this question has always been like opening a big can of worms. You will probably get almost as many different answers as there are different brands of oil out there.
Personally I use the Yamalube 0W-30 semi-synthetic and I change it (and the filter) every season regardless of mileage. I am thinking about trying the Yamalube fully synthetic next season.

+1 more full Mobil1 Full synthetic. I use the 0W-30.
Can be had at Walmart for $27/gallon. Been using it since second oil change at 1,000 miles. Now at about 7,000 miles with no issues.
Blue Dave nailed it on the head. There are as many opinions on oil as there is oil...probably a whole lot more opinions though!

I have been using Petro Canada Duron 0W30 oil in all my Yamaha 4 stroke sleds. Its a semi-synthetic and I had have no issues.

Why does Yamaha offer two different oils for the sled, semi-synthetic and full-synthetic? What are the advantages of one over the other? I've been using Amsoil in car, truck, boat and 2-smokers without any noticeable problems.

I will use Mobile for a example. They have oils for automotive, motorcycle and racing applications. There high rpm oils fall under the motorcycle and racing. Just don't buy automotive oil and use it in Apex engine. Why even bother wasting your time. Get the right oil for the application. Is saving a few bucks really worth it? I pay $50 for 4 liters of Motul synthetic ester oil and know my motor is well protected.
