What would cause the belt to squeal?

When I let off the gas and the sled is slowing down it and I punch it again the belt squeals now and again? Why does it do this and how do I fix it?

1-make sure your clutch is clean, you can rub your clutch with a scotch brite, wash your drive belt with water and soap.

2-check the drive belt height in the secondary, the spec are 1.5 mm above the secondary to 0.5 mm below.if not in the spec you have to add or remove washer on the 3 bolt behind the secondary.

I installed the a new belt on the weekend. I washed the belt. I cleaned both clutch insides and sheaves. I did 85 miles yesterday and I'm still getting the squeal at times. It maybe did it 4 times in 85miles. The belt looked to be a tiny bit above the secondary after the install. I noticed the rpms bouncing up and down the weekend before like the belt was sliping. Now with the new belt it doesn't seem to be bouncing. I will have to check the belt height in the sheaves currently. I don't get wehat you mean about the three bolt thing? Any other ideas?

The 3 bolt and washer are # 8 and #9

I might just bring it to the dealer and have them have quick peak. A guy a ride with said the belt seems too tight. Any other ideas? I think what I need to do is get the belt to ride higher in the secondary clutch. How would I do that?

If the drive belt is too low in the secondary then yes add a washer.

My guess is you're tackling this all wrong. I wouldn't think it has anything to do with the shims/belt height cause of this comment you first made:

The belt height would only come into play if you notice a problem when the sled is stopped, IMO. And when you let the sled stop on a stand, the belt doesn't always get to it's highest point cause of the engine braking. If you add some washers, you may have a problem with the belt squealing at idle. It's not hard, so I guess you can take 5-minutes and try it...

Even or a tad lower on the secondary is perfect. If it gets worse then shim it to get back even. If it rides above the secondary it squeals at idle.

Sounds like a bum belt, or the clutch sheaves have glossed over and need to be roughed up a little with some scotchbrite pads.

Its a new belt.. and the old belt did it too. I think the belt is just to tight.. I am going to try and add a washer and see what happends. I think because its so tight it has a hard time backshifting with the clutch.

If you think it's too tight already, adding a washer will make it tighter. Adding a washer will leave the bolts further out, allowing the sheaves to come closer together.

I think the belt is messed up. The width on it is good.. its as if its just too short in length. I am going to try and take out the smallest shim and see what happends.
