XS 825 shakedown

2800kms on my XS825 and finally grenaded it this past weekend. Lined up with a bud, made it 30feet then POW!! Wasn’t even mad about it considering I blew 5 belts in 5100kms last year! Lol
Broke in another 825 for 50km the beat the hell out of it all day Saturday! Thinking that belt is the ticket

Not bad for miles on this power. I made it 3000 miles on mine. It’s now my spare.

The reason why I ask about the belt swap for different tunes is my Heavy Hitter weights wont go low enough for the 240 tune. Maybe I'll just swap in the stock weights for the 240 tune and keep with the xs825 belt. I like to use the 240 tune for when we are touring for better fuel mileage.

The 240 tune doesnt get better mileage than the 270 tune. I tour with my sled, can get well over 200km per tank driving normally. Made it 235kms last season after passing 3 closed gas stations in a row.

Well final got some miles on this year, changed things around a little again lol,now seems to be right where it needs to be. I have Dalton dtya-1 ramps ground to 71.5 now,and loaded them to 73.7 to work with TP orange primary, with TP 14.8 rollers primary, for nice low 3000 engagement, and shifts at 8900-9050 max rpms in warm temps 35-40 degrees this last week. Now for secondary I first tried the STM 38 that I ran last year. So I also wanted to give the TP orange secondary spring another chance,so I wrapped it to 60 degrees with the STM 38 but not enough side pressure belt slipping badly, and very warm,so I left the primary where it was,and put the stock 35 wrapped to 70 degrees,on the old style dalton blk/org spring, this was the ticket. Pulls hard at 9000 and 17.5 lbs of boost on top end, with max 16 TD single tune. This was last years xs825 belt with 1100 miles on it.

6/1 or 6/2 would have got you where you needed to be on that orange TP WITH THE 38 straight.IMO Either way. A lot of recipes on these sleds! You were the last of the straight 38 guys! Lol. Besides me.

I absolutely love my stm 38,i just needed to have a quick fix,but I am not sold on the stock 35 yet,my next try may be my Dalton 41-35 wrapped to 70 or maybe 80 w/old style Dalton blk/org. Now the only down side I see with the TP orange is the tang length, they seem a tad to short, barley extend beyond the holes. At least I now have some nice RPMS to work with, and I got them using the dtya-1 ramps,so that's good. I also have another STM helix, its 42-36 not sure about that one yet.

I CONCUR on tang length. They seem short on that TP. 42/36. That’s sounds juicy.

Pete. Just did a 67 mile run and I set my orange TP back to 6/1. I can blow right through secondary on the punch. I can feel it slipping. On 6/3 I could pull the skis while cruising at 60-70 mph. If you go back to a tp orange run it at 6/3. I’m going to the cat green as I feel 6/3 in just to much wrap on that tp orange. Food for thought for you on that STM 38 straight.

Just what I figured would happen on mine did. I backed my TP orange down to 6/1 and the belt is slipping badly on the punch. Did 67 miles today on hard packed trails. So I’m confirming my setup from last year and now know why I was wrapped @ 6/3! Because it works. ALSO myself and Clutchmaster believe the STM 38 straight is more like a Dalton 40 straight.

5,800 miles. Tuned since 1,400. After getting tips from this forum and associated vendors, on clutching, weights etc. to deal with belts blowing, just regular maintenance thus far. Worried about drive shaft upper bushing etc. Will get BOP part and keep checking closely. Making sure clutches are clean and in good working order EACH trip, has helped a lot. Also XS-825 belt from Timken. Great sled runs awesome with TD tune.
This weekend I'll be taking the Apex up to QC to put some run time on it. It is amazing how well built comparatively this sled is. And how coll it sounds. Then again Sidewinder has held up just fine so far. Both are working great.

Agreed. What a difference. No black belt dust all over the place and the belt is holding up fine. So far approx 800 miles on it.

Good find Jon,you know I should of left well enough along, when it came to my secondary,as I already had my stm 38 set up with Dalton cat/green or his version in white, and I had it wraped to 100 or 9-1 wrap, that was what I removed, because I remember it being quite warm on last years set up,oh well I guess I could always go back to it again,or try and wrap my TP orange @6-3 but for now it feels good where it is,at least in warm temps, when winter returns and trails harden up,i may have to add more ramp weight.
