I’m going to go with your old set up next. Secondary is going to be a spring change from TP orange @6/3 which I feel is to much twist. It does hold well and it’s great on the punch and back shift but I feel it’s not as efficient because of having to twist it so much. Cat green @ 9/1 like you had. Happy trails. Will report back on findings. Long trip coming to the UP AT cabin. 12 days. Taking heat gun.Good find Jon,you know I should of left well enough along, when it came to my secondary,as I already had my stm 38 set up with Dalton cat/green or his version in white, and I had it wraped to 100 or 9-1 wrap, that was what I removed, because I remember it being quite warm on last years set up,oh well I guess I could always go back to it again,or try and wrap my TP orange @6-3 but for now it feels good where it is,at least in warm temps, when winter returns and trails harden up,i may have to add more ramp weight.

Jon,it worked ok last year, but I also had my STM ramps and red soft primary spring that ulmers kit used togeather with STM 38 on ulmers cats red version secondary spring set @01 because the tangs were offset some compared to daltons.I’m going to go with your old set up next. We’re running different weights also. So not exact apples to apples. But none the less.

Jon what ramps are you now running? This is the first time in two years that I have went back to Dalton dtya-1 ramps, with my other tune they were to heavy at stock weight of 74.5 grms, but now I have them lightened up to 71.5 I have room to add weight back as needed. We’re running different weights also. So not exact apples to apples. But none the less.

From another post:::
6/3 is crazy pressure. And it might not work for many. I Get that. I just pulled my belt and it looks crazy good for 3k. I’m a little dirty/belt dust in secondary. IMO ITS FROM the heavy backshift not from slipping on the punch. I may back it down to 6/1 again. I ran it all over but mostly found 6/1 was the lowest. Got to give the whole set up and realize that it may not work with a different helix and or springs.
I have a YAMAHA YLW/GRN/YLW primary spring with glide washers. The secondary is a TP Orange spring that we are speaking of. I’m at 6/3 with it.
The weights are heavy hitters 58.3 gram base.
The heels have 4.2 grams
The middle has .9 grams
The tip has 4.6 grams. Gives you 68 grams total.
This is with TD powertrail and turbo force can. So the 270 hp range.
Awesome gas mileage with this set up. I’m within .2 gallons of bone stock viper. We ride a lot together and put a lot of miles on. 8300 miles on a 17 LTX se 137. Just over 200 studs 1.425.
It’s a weird set up I’m sure most think but it hits really hard all the way up into the 50-60 mph range.
22 top gear also. Stocker is 21
XS BELT from 2018 if I’m reading the markings correctly. I know mine does not say Timkin on the belt itself.
EDIT. Also my secondary spring pocket was machined out for spring bind.

Got my set up right to run Carlistle xs belt today. After getting my empty DTya1 down to 70 grams each on the nose, pulls 8850 on power trail and 9100 on max 17 dalton black/green primary and dalton Orange secondary warped 6-2, stock ‘20 helix and gears. What a difference bringing this thing from 8300 to 8850 on power trail. And max 17 is just down right outrageous. So long story short if your gonna run an XS belt for the durability of them only need 70 gram base weights. Ended up removing 13.8 grams total. Unreal.

I also have the DTYA-1 weights empty so 70 grams with xs belt and can only pull 8450/8500rpm . stock primary spring and stock secondary spring wound to 3-3. Just changed back to the 8JP and instant 8900-9000 and yeah, what a difference. This is with the Hurricane 270 tune at around 18psiGot my set up right to run Carlistle xs belt today. I have about 1,500 miles on my XS825 belt with TD Stock Muffler Tunes. I am running Dalton QAY-70 weights at 72G, Dalton Black/Green primary, Dalton Black/Orange secondary, 35 Helix wrapped at 6-2. On Powertrail SM I run 8,800 and on Max Spool 16 Sm, 8,950. Absolutely love this machine!

DTya1 are not 70 gram empty. They were 74.6 on the scale when I started. I ground them to 70.00 gram with the bench grinder. Your exactly where I was. Get your hands on a good set of digital scales and grind them down, I took couple grams off the entire length of the weight on the back then last bit off mostly the tip and it’s bang on at 8850 on power trial (275) and 9000-9100 on max 17 at 17.6PSII also have the DTYA-1 weights empty so 70 grams with xs belt and can only pull 8450/8500rpm . stock primary spring and stock secondary spring wound to 3-3. Well there you go. Maybe put on surface grinder and take some of each side of the flats.

Really like the way my sled runs with the Powertrail Sm, stock weights ,xs belt ,35/39 helix, Orange TP secondary @40 and Orange TP primary. Super smooth 2700 engagement, good backshift , 8900 shift. Ran up to 124 on the speedo on the lake this past weekend. Nice clean clutches with no black marks. Pretty sure I can make ms16 work also with a lower rate primary spring.

That’s good info! The stock weights don’t push very hard on the big end. I assume your running the XS belt?

What are you running for rivets in the stock weights? This is good info........Im running eco trail sm for now and havent played with the clutching too much yet. Im getting my clutch machined 2mm right now to get alignment in check with the hurricane bar and purchased a few ultimax xs belts to try out. im over reving by about 300 rpm with 8Jp right now and stock clutching. I have some daltons to work with as well but for some reason I seem to prefer the yamaha weights for my type of riding.Really like the way my sled runs with the Powertrail Sm, stock weights ,xs belt ,35/39 helix, Orange TP secondary @40 and Orange TP primary.
