how many people would anti-up if this drove the cost of sleds up to the $15,000 range.

Here's a little something to think about...if we consider nothing but approx 4% inflation, a sled comparable to today's $10,000 USD Apex line will hit the $15,000 mark in about 10 years. And with the EPA still forcing things to get cleaner, energy getting more expensive, and consumers (like me!) demanding more all the time, my bet is that $15K will happen a couple years sooner than that. Those who don't want to pay can continue to play on the cheaper technology of former years. For example they could just buy a 2016 Polaris Edge XC500SP...I'm sure they'll still be making that sled and it should be pretty darn cheap by then! :jump:

$15K is inevitable. So we might as well have fun in the meantime...

BUT to directly answer the question, if a manufacturer came out with a new sled that encompassed a well-executed combination of even HALF my wish list, I'd probably choke up that $15K NEXT year for the benefit of riding it.

Yamaha has 80, 120 and 150+ H.p. sleds I'd like to see a 100H.p. Phazer since I don't want the extra weight of a higher output engine nor do we need anything higher than 100 in the Phazer chassis !

All this sounds really good, but how many people would anti-up if this drove the cost of sleds up to the $15,000 range.

Why does research and innovation have to drive up the cost of the sled? The Phazer is all new from the ground up and is the cheapest sled Yamaha is producing by thousands of $$$. I can go buy a new car for the price of an Apex GT for Christ's sake. Isn't that high enough already????

Kids get hooked early. My son loved his 120 and it was all he talked about.Arctic Cat this and Cat that, for a few years all he wanted was a bigger Arctic Cat.

Bigger motors for the mtn guys?Yes a few more HP would not hurt as the mtn sleds are still too heavy.
Flatlanders already have 118-124 mph covered with the Apex`s.Bigger motor really needed?
But...Didn`t they retweek the bike motor and take out a valve for some more low and mid range grunt.Hmmmm.

Make a bump sled that has a tunable, reliable suspension that will not spit wheels or bend arms and have other issues.
Something like the Doo XRS but made by Yamaha.

Spring custom build/order would be nice as well as more color choices/designs.

Why do the color surveys in the past and then do nothing? We only get a few choices.

Put a flip up cowl back on and flip out hinged side panels.

Better clutching.

We all know Yamaha has the capability and to jump past the
other 3 in almost every aspect of sled making/design and technology.

Yamaha makes the Lexus of sleds so if we are going to pay big $$$ why not give us what WE want.
People will pay for a great suspension that holds up.Wether its for the bumps or groomed Canada trails or a combination of both.
People will buy a sled with good skis.
People will buy a sled with lighter weight.
People will buy a sled with extras like eletric visor plug, gauges, gps etc.

Build a sled that says just by looking at it,that its a no-holds barred, kick azz,in your face, outa my way, take no prisoners, tough sled.

Just like the Dodge truck ads.Yamaha should be the new Mayor of Snowville.

BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME ;)! ;)! :yam:

The #1 goal IMO is Weight. Keep going lighter.

I like what craze1cars said in his first post " I am not a member of the the "bigger HP is better" bandwagon." That's how I look @ it too. I want to see them go through the componenets that have been the same for too long and reduce weight and refine.

Take every steel bolt and fastener on a current machine and replace with Titanium. Use carbon fiber. If you could take at least 50 lbs or more out of the current Apex/Attak and "if" they wanted to add 20 hp from the new R1 bike motor (the extra hp is not a must for me) that would be a sled I would jump on in a heartbeat. Even if it was over $13,000 msrp.

Regarding "C" It would seem to me that the lake racers and mountain guys would want the high HP. Not the rough trail or ditch banging sleds, they need low weight and agility instead of mass and muscle.

I'd like to see "D", but with some real wind protection out front for the long rides.

I SECOND that, I'm in the market next spring for a lake runner and YAMI cant deliver I might have to look over the fence...you KNOW!

I can't believe there is so little emphasis on durability.

How many of you got razzed by your 2-stroke Skidoo and Polaris buddies when on your first ride your idler wheels fell to pieces. To make matters worse the failed idler wheels continued all season (until you installed accessory or aftermarket wheels or worse - Skidoo or Polaris wheels!!).

How many of you got razzed by your 2-stroke Skidoo and Polaris buddies when you stopped to warm up your frozen hands (and next time you kept riding until you fingers were so stiff from the cold you could hardly pull the brake lever).

How many of you got razzed and towed home by your 2-stroke buddies when your chaincase lost all of it's oil and the chain let go.

How many of you have been hearing all summer about how their Skidoo's didn't have a single suspension problem in 2 high mileage years (~10,000 miles) yet your Yamaha needed idler wheels, rear shocks, new tunnels, new slide rails, new front pivot arms, etc. They point out over and over how they rode the same trails and same conditions and even claim to ride harder than you (and they do).

Even if you didn't personally have these issues we all bought Yamaha's at least partially for the reputation for extreme durability and we count on it. We want the confidence that our sleds won't break down. Before Yamaha adds any new features I for one would like to see these relatively easy to fix (through minor design changes) problems go away. I want to be able to ride a high mileage season and see my 2-stroke riding buddies with more break downs than me and my buddies riding on Apex's do.

Everyone talks about 2-strokes blowing up, but last season (yes it was rare) there was not one 2-stroke engine failure in the main group I ride with. The only engine failure was my 05 RX-1 and I doubt I will ever hear the end of it (I'm considered Mr. anal when it comes to sled maintenance and no one expected my stock engine to go).

Maybe Yamaha has everything sorted out on the 07 sleds and I for one hope they do (I bought an 07 RTX after spending lots of time considering purchasing from the competition).

Except for me, not one single new Yamaha was purchased for this season by anyone I ride with and two sold their Yamaha's and bought Skidoo's and Cat's. The reason wasn't performance or weight or fuel economy or lack of features or handling - the reason was durability, out of stock parts (back orders), lack of accessory availability (back orders) and customer service.

We all agree these sleds are great riding, smooth running, great handling, good on fuel, easy to start, comfortable, etc. Fix the bugs and at least in my neck of the woods there will be a lot more sales.

In regards to driving cost up, it does not have to. Make alot of these items mentioned as accessories, let the consumer dectate what the final price of his dream machine will be! As far as durability and back orders, all manaufactures have issues. I believe Yamaha has addressed most of the concerns (delaminating wheels, hand warmers). I rode Ski-Doo's for years with weak hand warmers and Ski-Doo claimed non issue. Yamaha was known for the best hand warmers in the business, hey they screwed up last year, now they corrected the issue. Every one makes mistakes. Alot depends on the Dealer, not Yamaha. Yamaha builds the best sleds period and as a result the competetion is starting to improve their quality. Currently Yamaha is the only sled manufacture gaining market share. Keep up the good work Yamaha! I think we are getting off from the thread topic. Just my 2 cents! :flag:

1ST.. Im still waiting for the 16HP gimmick that superstoker talked about 6 months ago..

2nd.. I have no use for a GPS on a sled..

3rd.. Screw 170Hp.. How about a 200hp sled detuned to 180hp for emission purposes..

4th... SLed still needs to be lighter another 30lbs should do it..

5th.. it is my opinion that while these sleds have gotton alot better riding and lighter.. there quality has gone down some (cheap paint on skid, Cheap idler wheels, quick wearing bushings etc)

6th.. Yamaha needs to learn about suspensions from Cat and Doo... Why is it that a yamaha needs new springs and new shock calibrations to fit a wide majority of riders.. when i could go ride a new Cat or Doo and make a few simple adjustments and never have to change springs or shocks?

This is not a Bitching post.. Im not complaining.. Just pointing out simple flaws that could help Yamaha next year..

I love my sled.. thats why im keeping for a LONG TIME..

They are getting way too expensive.... expecially when we are lucky to ride 2000 miles a year..

I can see why Yamaha has a hard time pleasing everyone....we all want something different!

Here is my personal want list.

1.Bring the "V" windshields back. I dress for the cold!

2. More HP!! I strictly trail ride and do some lakes. My 140 hp RX1 was 4mph faster on the top end and better on fuel. I will give up some more fuel economy for some more horse power.

3. " Mass air meter" type fuel injection.

4. Outside Temperature and water temperature guages.

5. Better suspension wheels and a 4th wheel kit.

6. Skis

That is about it.

I love my 06 RTX. I find it handles great. The Fox Floats are awesome. The weight does not bother me at all. The graphics are amazing. It really is my dream sled. I will supercharge it if I have to!!

We need to be first at the end of the lake! What better advertising is there?

I would be happy to see a set of mirrors that work from Yamaha. :yam:

Mirrors? I was always very happy with Yamaha's mirrors on the V-Max, they worked better then the other manufacturers. (IMO) I also feel that the Venture style mirrors work very well and add a motorcycle look to the sound.

I think they should offer a spring "SNOW CHECK" limited edition with some options like colours, windshields, skid plates, different tracks, shocks etc... you customise order to your likings! with a bigger deposit so customers don't back out???
