Yamaha @ the Soo I-500

.....and all the sidewinders finished in front of all the SkiDoos.......

I'm not well versed in the cat chassis sleds, why the engine change rather than leaving the winder engine in it? cool to hear are in it!

I believe the International 500 has a limit to size of engine that can be used… In regards to a Yamaha motor a three cylinder naturally aspirated four stroke is the limit ( no turbo) and a two stroke its 600 cc maximum… modifications are allowed but not in increased size of bore or stroke. These were the rules the last time I was in the Tech shop during inspection of machines…

They could run the Sidewinder engine, but not the turbo. The 998 engine is a legal entry, but we already had all the parts to build the Nytro/Viper 1049 motor, so that's what we went with.

Gotcha, thanks for the answer!

Good finish for them, congratulations.

Could imagine a bunch of 350hp sidewinders on that track!
Your up in UP maybe you could get them to rent the track for a one night race of Sidewinders when ice is smooth say the week before the soo and have a real International 20 lap winner take all sidewinder only race… Bet that would turn into a major race in no time at all…
