Here's some pics of my finished install, where I mounted the switch and LED. You can see the LED by leaning forward and looking through the rubber boot. I can't get to the switch REAL quick but I try to ride as long as I can with thin gloves so I hardly have the heaters off. Enjoy the clickable pics!

Nice clear pics Crew!
Like your unique mounting location for the LED & Switch.
Doesn't really matter where you mount the switch as you will very rarely/if ever use it. (Basically just leave it on.)
How are your grips now?

Rock,
I have a question...I have an 04 RX1M. The grips were pretty good until I took the handlebar pad off completely and re-wired the plugs under the hood. From then on, my grips don't heat very well at all. I was assuming the bars exposed to the cold air was the problem and the grips could not keep up. I used foam pipe insulator and hockey tape to cover up the bars and it helped a bit.
I know Apex's have problematic warmers, but would the Yamaheater solve my lack of heat problem on stock RX bars (minus the foam pad)?
Thanks,
Pete

Hi Pete!
As a general rule the RX-1s as a group are just barely warm enough to keep people happy.
(Some are cold, most can get by the way they are.)
When you change anything to increase the heat losses, they can't keep up anymore. (As you found out.)
Yes, you will lose alot of heat leaving the bars exposed.
Insulating them as you did should help keep them warmer. (Reduce the heat sink effect.)
The YamaHeater will definitely make them warmer, very much so!
Have an Rx-1 myself that was cold prior, makes a HUGE difference!
One of the best things is, you press the existing Blue Button on your bars and you have almost instant heat!
(YOU control the heat to your hands, not the sled.)
Have you considered also the 2007-2009 Apex bars?
(The Apex bars pretty much heat the same as your RX-1 bars and will be warm with the Yamaheater.)
The Apex bars with heated hooks are awesome!

If I could find Apex bars, I would consider the changeover. I have hooks on there now, but obviously no heat goes to them.
Your Yamaheaters sound too good to be true!!!! (Obviously, I believe they are true)

You will like being Warm!
Watch the classifieds on here, there are almost always some bars available.
Also check with user betheviper, he can usually help.
Might also check the Pay It Forward thread.
You want the updated 2006 bars or the 2007-2009 bars.
Can always add the bars later when you locate a set.

Hey Rock.
Got my Yamaheaters the other day and SRXTwins and I ended up installing them yesterday. It was a very easy assembly. It took us about an hour as we were very picky on the wiring etc. Ended up riveting one side of the unit heater to the chassis. Also I wanted the switch to remain on all the time (Its frickin cold up here in Winnipeg). so we left the switch bundled in with the connectors. However, I thought that mounting the LED just below the HI LO lettering on the left side handlebar warmer switch would be more practical. I must say, IMO, this is a much tidier and better looking location than near the display panel. We ended up cutting the LED wire and extending and soldering it about another 14 inches and ran the wires up along the stem with the other.
Looking forward to nice toasty hands.

Rock-I bought my Yamaheater kit from you last winter and I don't recall having to up the fuse resistance for the Sig wiring. I checked my fuse and it's a 3 amp. My buddy who just purchased a Yamaheater kit from you said he had to up the fuse to a 15 amp. Has something changed in the latest batch of Yamaheaters or did I miss that step in the instructions?

Hi Dude!
You did fine!
The kit has changed a bit since you got yours, and functions the exact same with the same current draw.
The only difference is where we tap into for the power.
On yours, it is through the fuse holder/Red wire provided.
On his, the power is drawn from the SIG circuit, that is why the fuse change on his.
You do not have to change the SIG fuse on yours.
We did this to help simplify installation for the Plug & Play kits, that way, you litterally simply Plug the YamaHeater in and it works!
(One less wire to run & connect for you.)
Hope this helps!
