I will say when the it had the 40 odd miles...the clutching was real inconsistent...ran great out of the hole...but there were times if we were mid range to top speed runs I couldnt outrun an apex...in fact both their apexes could have topped me on the big end if held there....something fixed by the primary shim and shift assist....
Id say the yamaha chlutching is far superior to cats,,,from my clutching experience...aym gets more done with less....cats clutching sucks alot til tweaked..
the muffler adds a solid 10 hp....and interccoler and charge tubes 15 h.p. , with the muffler and different intercooler swap they dyno's at 202 h.p.....
Id be happy to see him add boost...an mpi unit or rear mount mcx would be choice....

Andy this is where Steve and I disagree. The only place the Z1 was faster then the Apex stock for stock was from a dead dig. Steve is running a 1.5 inch studs to 1.375's i ran or the 1.325's Russian runs. from years of experience with yamaha's I also know that the yamaha's are by far the worst out fo the hole sled there is. they might pull the skis but they don't luanch like a cat, doo,or poo.
Any race from a roll the apex was out front. In some case when we would race out of the hole I would pull back on SJ's bumper. Not every time becuase when someone launches 4 sleds out on you you have no prayer. we raced some long distances down the side of 131 heading north from Mancelona to the turn to Indian river in alba. I can tell you when we hit it from a 40 plus roll I never saw Steve. I don't care what he says. My sled was just as stock as Steve's. I had less then 100 miles when we left for the trip.
If you had equal traction with two bone stock broke in sleds in my book the apex would win based on the results I saw on the lake and on the trail.

tell ya what brother...at that time...your sled was faster...of course you already had your first mod which was the wheel kit....and it seems to me your sled was faster than than d dogs til he added the wheel kit too...hmmm seems the wheel kit was a good mod! kudos to excell!
now going forward..other than midrange up on snow when it was new, at no other time was it even close...or will it again ... unless you or m.r. goes and gets some nitrous or boost...lol

Acctully Denis had the wheels first. If you want to call that a mod all I can say is ok. As I stated a huge advantage for you besides the turbo "lol" was the 1.5 studs and better skid for drag racing. Isnt the stud thing one of the big reasons you didn't want a apex??
And stop saying it wasn't even close. When a sled can run a sled down or
when it gets good traction from a roll and it beats your sled you have no
business saying "it wasn't even close". If both sleds had equal traction the apex wins.
Remember this is stock for stock. The way you are setup now it's all over with.

yep...that was a problem for me.....not being able to get the right hookup on a 162 hp sled..
if it makes you guys happy if gladly turn the jacker to zero , put the stock muffler back on and run an stock 11 apex just so we can see for sure...we can even video it for all to see ...

Maybe..... But, I can tell you this.... The clutching on the stock Cats are junk and always have been... Yamaha does a way better job out of the box calibration... I still say clutched for clutched, I doudt the Apex will win. Maybe Steve should unplug the jacker and just clutch it and run mad russian to see what he's got.

How many times from a roll did you guys race and how many times did you win on a roll.

it dont matter...somehow ...myself included this threads got hyjacked (no not the DD kind) ...
the poster got the most out of his nytro claims to have beaten a z1 t... kudos to him...
the apex is a great midrange and top end sled and stayed with and bested a z1 t.... kudos to them...
as long as were all having fun.....and everyone has the right to believe what they want to believe...its a free country!

DO we really want to get into the excuse game? Ok lets go there.
Do you hear Russian crying about the poor fuel curve the 2011 has? Russian actually hurt his sled to the tune of 20 HP according By doing his airbox mod with no fuel controller. Allen lost 10 at the track on the apex when they did the airbox mod with no PC5. 10 at the track is 20 at the crank. Andy you should know better then anyone on the site since you cried for 6 weeks about the Apex needing the PC5 that the apex is already lean from the factory.
Should Russian be crying about the loss of MPH he had with the Woodys dullies he installed prior to our ride. Ya he lost 10mph on the top end. he did back to back runs with them on and with them off to prove it.
This is what I hate about drag snowmobiles. No one ever loses. I just got done saying the Z1 beats the apex every time out of the hole. Which means it wins that race. Oh but that's never been good enough for Steve. I've been having this Fnning conversation with him for 6 weeks now. Unless I say his sled is the fastest all the time he hasn't been happy. Or better yet there's been an excuse.
Andy one more thing if you want to interject your opinion get in your car, and drive down to anchor bay and watch the races. Instead of using Steve's story , come down and post your own story.
this crap is one of the big reasons I'm considering quieting the sport.

I have no idea. But what I know is from a roll which takes the longer stud advantage out of the picture My sled was equal or ahead of the Z1 on most occasions. The only time Steve got in front was when he hit it first.
Here's another thing he could never catch me or pass me when I got ahead or if we stayed side by side.
Steve will not admit this but after he road my sled I truly believe he wished he had bought an apex.
He's happy with his purchase now becuase it's very fast.

Russian actually hurt his sled to the tune of 20 HP according By doing his airbox mod this is funny...how do you know its 20hp loss...btw...when we rolled on during our trip I had my air filter out and I think it hurt me as well, but I didnt use that as an excuse...did i?

Should Russian be crying about the loss of MPH he had with the Woodys dullies he installed prior to our ride. guess what bro...you were with me when they put dooleys on mine at the dealership...is it only a loss for the blue camp ha ha? Ya he lost 10mph on the top end. he did back to back runs with them on and with them off to prove it.
This is what I hate about drag snowmobiles. No one ever loses. I just got done saying the Z1 beats the apex every time out of the hole. out of the hole and all the way down the track...why the out of the hole explanation? if you took your lake race viper and got two out on another sled and one...would you say..well I really didnt win cuz it was only out of the hole and never pulled away? I doubt it...Which means it wins that race. Oh but that's never been good enough for Steve. I've been having this Fnning conversation with him for 6 weeks now. Ive only owned the sled for 4 weeks?Unless I say his sled is the fastest all the time he hasn't been happy. what are you talking about...Ive been thrilled...Ive not asked for your opinion one time...you yourself have said it of your own accord...always with an extra sentence thrown in...."but stock for stock I think the apex is faster" sounds like you need me to say the apex is fast?
Andy one more thing if you want to interject your opinion get in your car, and drive down to anchor bay and watch the races. Instead of using Steve's story , come down and post your own story.

let me make it clear....I made a mistake and took all the bait laid out on this forum...a yamaha forum...one of many friends and acquantances... look at all my posts on Ty I am still here to help whenever possible...
funny..if the truth per you jason is my sled is stupid fast...why must you keep going back to when to one trail ride where the apex pulled as good or better for a minute.. you guys had already been wrenching on your sleds and I didnt touch a thing did I?
did you happen to remember I told you my belt was sitting way too low probably from me smoking it out on the lake? nope that would be an excuse for me...so keep that burnt belt out of the game right? "oh you only beat us on the holeshot" sounds like the excuse game to me... but the excuses only go the blue way right...
dont make it sound like youre thinking of "quiting the sport" because of this....your exact words were you were thinking of quiting after wrecking the apex...
also...funny how some treat those who treat others poorly get treated better than those who treat them well... guess my sled is the wrong color...
truth is the only thing thats making me even for a second regret this sled is the b.s. excuse game thats getting run here...
just like you told sledfreak...why are you posting here (since he's now on a 1200 doo) I can see clearly... Im out and done posting HERE...only in other forums to help others...now all you nytros and apex owners, and blue visioned boys share a group hug..
