ZX2 Vibration survey

Track is clipped every third.

No extroverts. Stock brand new drivers. They are set at the right specs.

The vibration is noticeable on a groomed trail or any type of hardpack and only at lower speeds (0-50mph) can you feel it. Once you get into high speeds you do not notice it. In powder I do not feel it. Trust me, you would know what I am talking about if you have this issue. It is nothing you have to pay attention to. It is like running over rumble strips or like I said before like you have lost part of your belt.

Rxrider what settings did you change?

Oh, and yes it is awesome to be putting on these kind of miles already! It is like the U.P. right now, the snow is deep!

I ran way to much preload, I backed off on the spring preload to 3 and let it bottom out slightly more often for a better overall ride comfort. At 4 on the springs I hardly ever bottomed out. Also I got hold of a 2007 Attak seat which are a little softer, that also took away some of the harshness felt running the springs at 4 and sitting on a RS Vector Nitro BadBoy seat, too firm in the long run.

Make no mistake, I love my ZX-2 and would not switch it for a Apex RTX skid, no way.

mdkuni - I'm lost for ideas of what's creating the vibrations in your skid. I run my track fully clipped, that may help, but I really don't know.

When you run in on a jackstand, will it still vibrate?

I run fully clipped as well. How tight is your track? I forgot what the spec was but when I lifted my rear end I had less then 1/2" of sag in the middle of the suspension and I thought it was a bit tight but the track was new and I was expecting it to stretch out. I haven't checked it yet this year.

Have you checked all the bearings on the idler wheels?

I will do a recap and include the new things done:

I ran a fully clipped track last year. Same issue. It is not a track problem I can say this with 100% confidence. It is a ZX2 issue. I have removed all variables that could cause an issue besides the skid.

Every bearing in the chain case has been replaced.
Brand new chain
Jackshaft bearing replaced
Driveshaft bearing replaced
Primary completely rebuilt
Secondary rebuilt
New belt
New track fully clipped
New track clipped every third
New driveshaft with existing drivers pressed back on
New driveshaft with brand new drivers
Top tunnel protectors removed
I have tested removing the set of wheels that run between the rails. No improvement.
All worn wheel bearings have been replaced

The day I last rode my monoshock the skid was smooth. The very first ride with the ZX2 there was immediate vibration.

Track is set to 1-1.5" sag after being run for several miles.

On a stand it is quieter then my mono. I do here a noise by the front of the rails but can not pin point it.

In my mind I only have two things left that I feel are causing the issue: The track cogs are getting run over by the rails or the cogs are getting run over by the wheels.

I will make another attempt with Denis at ADBoivin but we all know how that story will unfold.

Why not just get a Warrior with a SuperCharger on it Mark.............. ;)!

Just messin with ya, I really do hope you get that thing figured out, its a beautiful sled.......... :4STroke:

Now that you mention that I am trying to figure out my hyfax wear and if I need to repalce or not and there is some scratching on the OUTSIDE of the hyfax in the very front. Does yours have excessive scratch marks on one side or the other from the metal clips that are on the inside of the track driver? (they are little "L"s)

Maybe its a paraellesim issue? Is there a way to verify the skid is installed square?

#$%&* #$%&* #$%&* that Warrior of yours is fast! I love it! ;)!

Thanks, I think she looks pretty darn good myself.

Yep, I have scratching along both outsides of my hyfax from the clip guides. But both sides look the same.

I have no idea how to check if it is square but would like to know how.

I'll measure the distace the rails are apart when I get home and compare that to yours, seems to me if your rails were farther apart then ours (defective skid) and those track clips were hitting the side of the hyfax it would act like your describing. If they are the same then were back at zero.

Are your small idler wheels' rubber worn a little on the inside?
I have a few sets of idlers that are worn on the inside, it could be a problem as it would be caused by the idlers running over the cogs in the track, like you said, but mine doesn't vibrate at all.

When changing sliders I will take a good look at both the idlers and the sliders and see what I find.

It may be your track is too loose . the plastic shrinks in the cold so it may be the track hitting the front of the skid . try tightining it up and see what happens

I have done track tight and track loose. It does not make a difference.

Keep in mind this skid did this since I got it so it is not a matter of anything being worn.

My front rails are exactly 10" outside to outside measured right across the limiter strap, see what yours are I'm curious.

Also I had hyfax wear on the SIDE on only the left side, my track may be misaligned slightly.

Point is there was SO much clearance on the right side that I don't know how you could have wear marks on both sides evenly. Also track tension is to be tight with no gap at 70 degrees F, mine has about 1/2" of slop but seems really tight. I'll check sometime when in snow at -14 its supposed to be 1.5" of track hang.

Thanks for the measurement kinger. I will check tonight.

It is not possible to have no gap. With how the wheels are the track will not sit flat against the slides in the middle. I do know that after riding in the snow my gap measures 1-1.5" which seems to be spot on.

Same question: Does it vibrate on the stand?
