ZX2 Vibration survey

I just back from a four day trip in the U.P. and I am convinced (as Sasquatch has indicated) the vibration is coming from the clips making contact with the front of the rails at the bend - this is where the pressure point of the track is and between the approach angle and the bend of the rails it creates the vibration when the clips come around and make contact with the rails - I think the addition of an extra wheel is the answer - as I indicated earlier in this post, the first wheel on the skid is 4" farther back than on the stock skid - I think that adds to the problem too - I'm going to send Dennis and Jeff an e-mail and see if they can design an extra wheel for this location - if not, I'll come up with something myself, but either way, I am convinced it is the source of the problem!!! ;)!

In regards to the clips, when I adjusted my track by doing what was mentioned in my last post, I ran the sled on a stand. I did notice the track ran much smoother and the clips hitting the rail sound I have always got went away....

If your track is running crooked it would run against the sliders. That would cause a vibration for sure.

I got mine lined up after the first 200 miles - I put about 1500 miles on it this year and I am very happy with it - no issues with anything, loose bolts, slidder wear, etc. - the vibration was the only thing and it has been very subtle - I would recommend this skid to anyone!!

Honestly the vibration was pretty annoying at first then became horribly annoying after time because I did not want to deal with it. Now after my last adjustment it is much more tolerable.

As far as waiting to buy the skid, let me tell you I have about 3,500 miles on this skid and have put it through some of the roughest conditions and it is still in one piece! I can’t believe it. When looking at the 09 suspensions they make me cringe. All I see is all of that metal rusting, cracking, and snapping in half. I personally don’t see how I could ride a metal suspension again.

Hopefully we can get the vibration completely worked out and I will send my shocks out for a revalve. Then the skid has the potential to be perfect, it is not far from it now.

I second that, these issues seem to be hit or miss, I wouldn't ride a sled without the ZX2 now and I am hard to impress. I was actually looking forward to selling the skid and taking the money but no way, its does every well and some things better then I could imagine.

I changed my original post about tightening the right adjuster. I rode tonight in some different conditions since adjusting the track and found the vibration to be the worse it has ever been. I adjusted it back to how I had it before with equal amounts at each adjuster.

Still searching for a cure.... :o|

I run my track very loose with the front limiter strap up one hole and have NO vibration

I run it in 1/4 on the revolver, stock limiter. No vibration.

To be honest, my '08 Apex RTX rides way better than my ZX-2 136" equipped '03 RX-1. No comparison, Yamaha did a very good job setting up the Apex RTX :)

Thats what I have been saying!!! The attacks are the best riding sleds I have ever ridden--bar none!!!!!!

460 miles of awesome riding this weekend!

ZX2 vibrates like a half shredded belt :o|

Changes over the off season include:

Removing the top tunnel protectors
Brand new drive shaft
Brand new stock drivers
Revalved shocks
Brand new 1.25" non studded Predator track

I would love a solution to this vibration problem.

I am wondering if someone would take the time to remove all the wheels except the rear axle and the two wheels on top. Take her for just a quick spin and see what happens. I still feel the tolerances between the track cogs and wheels are to close.

Wow I can't beleive you are having this issue, I assume the vibration is so annoying you feel it all the time still? How does the track look after 460 miles is it hitting anything? Is it full clip?

I have a 121 predator 1.25" track with studs, stock driveshaft with doo extroverts and have no annoying vibration. I think I remember at one speed it feels like your going over rumble strips on the road but not nearly as loud, I have to REALLY focus to try and hear or feel the vibration.

Wow I wish I could do 450 miles already!

Do you run extroverts? Any possibility that they are mounted slightly out of spec, then the outer teeths could hit the side of the openings in the track and create vibration, just a thought.
Mine has never vibrated or made any more noise than any other sled I've had. And I found a better setting late season last year that made the ZX-2 ride better than my Apex RTX :)

Says brand new stock drivers in his description so its not that.

Whats you new setting rxrider? I was searching old posts and you said the 08 rtx rode better glad to hear the zx is better now :)

Its a fantastic skid! be nice to help mdkuni fix his issues.
