09 Nytro running rough

It only takes a second of low oil pressure to damage a rod bearing. Once damaged the motor may last anywhere from a few hundred up to a thousand clicks and then it goes. The low oil pressure does just enough damage to the bearing that you end up with to much clearance . This means more contact then over time it gets worse until it finally goes kaboom.

As I mentioned earlier an ROV is alot cheaper than a new motor. The middle rod is prone to grenade after a couple of seconds of low oil pressure. I believe that was your culprit. As JD mentioned could be a couple of hundred or a 1000 klicks. Then BOOM. It was the middle rod correct.

Was it a lean burn down or a crank bearing failure? What was left of the piston?

Pete

Haven't opened it up...the guy I bought my engine from wants to buy it...he is a yamaha mechanic so I'll probably sell it and find out from him...anybody have an ideas what a engine is worth that has a hole in it? Rod took out the starter...stator is good not sure what else? BTW if anybody is thinking of changing an engine it's not that difficult...just takes a long time!

After a motor goes like that normally not much is salvageable. The head might be okay as long as the piston didn't make contact when the rod went. I had one do the same and all that was good was the head (after replacing a couple bent valves), stator and a couple pistons and rods. A few other odds and ends. Not sure what a damaged one would be worth but I'm thinking a couple hundred dollars??

I see your plug was damaged so the piston likely hit the plug.
