Question, how much is .5 seconds in sleds lengths to 660'? Say carrying speed is 105 on top...
Acceleration matters, were you equal to 330, did you have to reel him in, etc.. I will say that .5 second is a lifetime at 660'.

If you just mean if two sleds are travelling at 105Mph and the time to cross some arbitrary point is .5 seconds in difference, the distance between them is about 7+ sled lengths, but that is not what is happening in 660'.

For fun I made this chart during the "Mach Z king of the lake" discussion and based on gear ratios, the SRX would walk the mach Z on top. Then calculated if each were at their theoretical max speed (based on gear ratio), what would the gap be over time.

Well ..if you were to come, are you bringing reeds with you?
I hear the q16 and high boost does wonders on them?
Do you have a guy who's gonna change them lakeside? Quite the mess, pulling the tank and $***.
Sure it's like the old days.....hahaha.
Lay back and enjoy the ride.....

I checked mine and they looked new. Haven’t been on the stutter though and other stuff!!!
Actually it’s not terrible to change reeds
Maybe 1.5 hrs

Looking at the Polaris Boost it looks like they packed stuff pretty tight… compared to the Catalyst Iam thinking 858 with a turbo is going to be the king of 2 smokes …. Yup going to be more smack talk real soon ….

It could be but there is a lot of room under the hood on the Polaris also
I like cats so I’d get one but we have a couple years on these and they run well.
The Polaris motor is not what the cat of the past was. Who knows what the 858 will be though? 600 made same hp as 20 years ago so really kind of a turd
Looks like 2 smokes are what’s coming though which I know none of you want to hear.
I hope a 4 stroke turbo stays in the game

On a side note I’d take an 850 doo in my matrix

Four strokes are my choice and are best for the environment… They also have the title of The best durability and or longevity… We get all this at the cost of more weight… Ski-Doo has done a good job cleaning up the 2 smoke about as good as can be done… I like the improvement Cat has made in developing the 858 and its looks like most new features all point to a Turbo in the near future… For sure aftermarket but don’t be surprised if the factory comes along sooner than later… It will be a lightweight rocket with exceptional handling and then there will be three 850 turbos all trying to be the best…. Its going to be interesting thats for sure….

We're being herded back to a 2 stroke at a time the world is going green. SMH?!?!
Anyone care to explain, not that'll believe you. It would be fun to read..... haha

Well the company that pioneered the 4 stroke is deciding to pack it in. The other companies are all about the bottom line, and the bottom line is 2 smokers are considerably cheaper to make. So Doo will be the only major 4 stroke player going forward, will they continue to up their 4 stroke game, or sit back because they know they don't have any competition? The next couple of years should be interesting, because with the advancements in the SxS market, it should translate into the sled market(hopefully). My $.02

Why is simple. 2-strokes engines allow manufacturers to deliver a product that has a level of performance sufficient to drive consumption (purchasing by the public) at far higher profit margins than they can manage with 4-stroke designs. IOW there is a ton of incentive to keep tweaking the 2-stroke. Also, from an engine design perspective, 2-strokes are far cheaper as an investment so its a cheaper cycle from design to production with 2-strokes.

The reason we don't like 2-strokes is that current 2-stroke technology must burn oil in the combustion cycle. The reason we like 2-strokes is that they have twice the volumetric efficiency of 4-strokes, meaning that for a given cylinder displacement they can put out twice the power (at theoretical limits) or more realistically, they can create more power for the same displacement.

A (potential) future; Modern 2-stroke engines are going to move away from port based intake/exhaust flow and move to better intake/exhaust management like valves in 4-strokes but the valves themselves come in all kinds of interesting designs. This requires external pressurization (supercharger) but eliminates the need to burn oil. Basically creating 4-stroke like timing control while leveraging 2-stroke efficiency. In the meantime, 2-stroke engines are cheaper to make, and cheaper to repair so for as long as the manufacturers can get away with whatever they need to do to pass EPA regulations they can inch their way into a more efficient 2-stroke future
