'12 XTX suspension advice...

I didn't even notice. My '05 RX1 is mono w/o torsion springs. The only sled I've owned w/o them. Seems Yamaha went backwards in rear suspensin quality, at least for awhile...

I was looking at parts at Yamaha Sports Plaza and the non XTX for '12 had mono suspensions?

I see DK wants $64.95 for the '09 Nytro torsion spring spacers, same as Hygears price. DK doesn't carry the torsion springs...

Partzilla has them for $120 each, ouch...... Although, that's about the cheapest I'm seeing..

I have a set of Nytro springs if anyone wants to buy them. They didn't work for me. What did work is the whole Star Suspension kit. I put this in my 14 XTX and was amazed! These guys have figured this out hands down and they are a great company to deal with. You guys without this can't put it in fast enough! Quit dicking around with other methods as you are just wasting time and money. Yamaha needs to hire the guys at Star for sure.

apex short tracks where all mono's .

my 11 rides fine with the nitro torsion springs and 5 position adjuster blocks when the shocks are in good shape. it transfers awsome and rides better than all of the pro actions we have had with olins and they where really good. right now the shocks are due for service and it is stroking through a bit fast for my liking but still rides and handles awsome.

I wonder how much rider weight plays into it too? I'm sure thats a factor. I believe Maim, you said you were 250? I wonder what coolio runs? I'm about 190.....

well when my shocks are in good shape, i run on position 4. when they are tired, i have to run position 5. i also like to have the transfer set about 40/60 (top/bottom) when the sled is dry with my weight on it. can ride a bit stiff till it loads up with snow but is great once loaded up.

and yes, i claim to be 250 lb usually.

Well my 170 lb butt each afternoon got whipped on the TY ride with my stock xtx. Rode his 11 xtx and his 16 which makes me want to find a 16 singleshot.
In the meantime will work on my 11 xtx ride, nytro springs, starr which way will i go?

Multiple thread addressing this issue. I personally have swapped 4 different setups into my 11. There is to much stiction in the rear arm. Star Suspension is the place to call. There kit, when done completely, meaning linkage , revalved and new spring for front shock and revalved rear shock work very well. I'm currently running an M20 Airwave and Fast Front Airshocks.

What made you run a m20 vs the EC mono skid?

I've got the full star suspension kit and the stock springs were way too stiff for me. there are approx 4 or 5 rated different torsion springs that fit the XTX and the Nytro. the ones i ordered are the 1200nm version , there is also the 1500, 2100, 1400 and i believe a 1300 as well but the microfiche doesn't list the rating on all of them . i find the 1200nm a little too soft for me because i've got it set on the hard setting now (stock 3 position adjuster) and i'd like more when i have the saddle bags on it. I've tried to contact Barn of Parts for his 4 postion adjuster but can't get a response. Does Yamaha sell the 4 and 5 position adjuster or is that just aftermarket and if not then who sells the 5?

Call Travis, he usually always answers phone. A little slow on the email responses.

His email address he has doesn't work, on line store doesn't work because it wont let me open my shopping cart to complete my order. i texted him on his contact phone # and I'm still waiting

go to your dealer and order the sr viper acessory 4 position adjusters sgauthier. i used those on mine until i got the 5 position ones from muffinworks. here is the part # SMA-8JP39-BL-00

I rode a Redbeard's Apex with the complete M20Airwave/Air Assault setup. I've owned an Attak and knew the compromises of the Monoshock skid. Durability is important to me as well. I've broken every component on every Yamaha skid I've owned. Hell, I broke an ExpertX skid! This suspension is VERY robust, and the response from Fast has always been good. PLUS, my good friend Redbeard is an ace designer and fabricator.
