2009 Apex what should I look at before purchasing

is this the soft start primary clutch spring people are using in the Apex? Is it truly a good upgrade to do?

Is the stock secondary clutch spring the pink one?
Here is a the link to the TY Tech area. Once you select the correct year you can see the stock specs and settings

Soft start is good for people that do not like an aggressive clutch engagement

If you are going with tall windshield I'd recommend the one with supports. If you're replacing the snow flap I'd go with the newest style found on 2011s on up they look better in my opinion. Not sure your going to find alot of information on led lighting on apex that said Id go with Rocks hids literally night and day difference. Lots of knowledgeable and helpful people on this site welcome and enjoy your new ride.

So I have the sled all taken apart now and found one of the exhaust flanges broken off on the Y pipe. Has anyone tried TIG welding this back together with any good results? If not were is a good place to purchased a used or new Y Pipe?

Good luck finding a new one in the USA.

Check Yamaha Canada. Supposedly they still have some NOS ones on hand, but don't hold me to that 100%.

You may wind up settling on a used one from Barn of Parts or Spa City Sled Parts.

And for $2300, you stole that thing. I gave $3200 last February (2019) for my '09 LTX-GT with 4,740 miles and thought I bought it right, and it too needed a couple minor fixes (donuts, bulkhead/arm bushings and one A arm, it was slightly tweaked)

so trying to get the Y pipe disconnected from the can portion of the exhaust and not having any luck. I have the clamps removed and it just doesn't want to separate. Any recommendations

Method 1. Keep the Y pipes bolts in and tight. Get a 16" long block of wood. Place that on the front side of the muffler. Grab your heaviest hammer and proceed to bang off the exhaust. Have had to do this numerous times to mine.
Method 2. Drop the skid. Heat both ends of the exhaust pipe un 'til cherry red and then pull or tap the muffler back.
Either method you do you will probably need two new exhaust gaskets.
