I installed the powermadd handguards last season after losing one of the cheap Yamaha handguards. The mounts and guards are well built but I had an issue with one of the leds not working out of the box. I called Powermadd and they had another set sent out to me that day. Overall I'm really happy with them.

I would like to do the full powermadd setup once done that will be an option vs. a 2-3" riser... Tonight I started on the "patches" to fix the tunnel crack issue. My sled has a welded crack that split and moved another 5/8" above the weld (gas was on that side of the tunnel) so tonight I did some recon and started to grind down the weld for the new plate. I will drill a hole at the top of the crack you will see above the finished plate but hope it stops there. The welding distorted the aluminum maybe 1/8" inward as shown in the pic at the weld so considering putting a filler (maybe 5200) behind the plate so the entire setup once bonded is one unit. A little more grinding and the weld face will be flush with the plate so you can see how things are deformed. Any suggestion on material? Marine 5200 bonds anything, but perhaps there is an aluminum specific material I am not aware of, open to suggestions.

Other ongoing discoveries on this 2009 FX XTX (new to me in April)... appears to have the full HyGear suspension setup. Anyone recognize was this the trail or sport version? Has the triple springs up front, looks like dual springs on the front skid shock with an added remote reservoir and a piggy back (hose clamps and all) reservoir on the second skid shock. Spring blocks, springs, torsion rods all look stock. I found a thread on these back around page #510 last night and seems like the HyGear suspension upgrades were in the $1500-$2000 range back in 2010. I have only rode this sled once and the skis were beat and I was in 18" of powder so no real experiences on it yet other than the throttle certainly "adjusts" the sled dynamics no matter what the snow surface. Here the threads suggest this setup addressed many of the Nytro suspension complaints in one swipe with sensitivity, yet still good handling and big hit capability. Will have to research HyGear more, maybe their site has setup instructions, please comment if you have any experience with them, will assist me and the next guy.

Today the Autosol 1824 Aluminum Polish arrived along with the Bergstrom triple points (missing a few nuts and shims for the skis, will post those pics tomorrow). The Autosol, nothing short of a "startling" result. If you ever had to polish your Mother's silver you know what I mean by the black oxidization and then wipe off and... amazing... this is first pass at first 5" of tunnel near footwell, I can see why this is addictive, you can shine it up as much as you work! LOL. Starter pics, worth every penny.

Went with the Bergstrom Tuner solution: 8" triple point carbides on the inside (6" was for non-aggressive riders), 1/2" hard bar (no carbide) on the outside, 3/8" ski savers, 3/8" plastic shims that go under the rear end of the rubber inserts after reversing them from their stock direction (see pics / instructions below). You can see in the pics their "ski saver" is also a 3/8" hard plastic shim that goes under the carbide and deepens the Tuner keels to the 2015 "deeper Tuner Keel" depth plus saves the ski from wearing (check your skis, they wear around and near the carbides). Replace the $20 ski saver vs. $150-$400 skis. Bergstrom also supplies (free) a 3/8" shim that goes under the rubber insert after reversing the stock direction, this changes the position of the ski and the pressure point on where the skis touch down on snow so they hit on the carbides, further correcting the 2009+ Yamaha geometry changes to eliminate darting, improve steering and keep things light. Per the Bergstrom website and tuner reviews the triple points are like "riding rails", we will see and report. Scott Bergstrom also has some strong opinions on every ski out there and the fact that all skis suffer from a 10 degree angle while turning reducing carbide bite, hence the triple point design... seems to make sense. Posting all the pics I took again so you can look at as much or little detail as you want.

Chipping away at the Autosol 1824 aluminum polish... easy way to clean things up. I notice there are scratches where your boot rubs and were saddle bags were from the prior owner that are into the finish, wonder if some sort of power buffing would minimize this or may just go with it as is... highly recommend this over mag rim cotton cleaner which took a lot more effort with less results.

They don't have setup instructions on their site. Call Ross and discuss it with him or one of the shock techs. I personally would send them in for service, there is a form on the site that you fill in with your specifics (weight, sled, riding style, other upgrades on the sled) and they try and get you a base setup on the shocks to go from. Could make a world of difference, sure did on my XTX, was a mess before they went thru them. Once they were on I had it dialed in after an hour or so of riding and it was like it was on rails as much as a nytro can be. I felt way more confident going into corners a little hotter, alot less lean and push. For me its but a 45 minute ride to them so I just go down and bother them, Excell is right in my backyard too.

nydiver good call... I will give them a shout and ask for Ross, my brother in law just had them rebuilt season before last but he weighs 160 and I am 195 without gear. With my full leathers, helmet and boots I suspect I am pushing 220lb. plus 1.3 gallons of gas, a shovel and rope cumalong in the rear rack I bet I am 250lb. What do you think about the spring plastics HyGear sells? Found a thread (#443 I think! Been reading them backwards starting at #607... lol, bored thinking about snow) about springs and some love the idea, some believe it is BS. To me, all the incremental changes add up. I see you are in NY too, we should try to get a TY Nytro rally going in FEB... planning a few trips north of the border to Quebec as well, maybe all meet up there, heard the trail "cities" are pretty entertaining!
