dates
I know it is tuff to please everyone, but lets plan some dates now, so people can start making plans for there days off. How does Wed. Jan 13th -Sun, Jan 17th sound for ride # 1, and Wed Feb. 24th- Sun Feb. 28th sound for ride # 2. Some might ba able to ride all 5 days each time while others may only be able to come for a couple days. Please feel free to ride what ever dates you can make. We can plan ride locations in a couple weeks, but I just thought we should throw some dates out there. Does anybody want to have different dates? lets keep this post rolling. Winter will be here soon, however you wouldn't know it today as it is 57 degress outside at my house right now. BBW

Those dates work good for me. (Ride 1) Jan 13-17th and (Ride 2) Feb 24-28th. Once we get all the dates and destinations squared away, we can start a new thread with definite plans.
So......Try for the January ride out in the southern tier? Or better off waiting to try the southern tier in February. Obviously, Tug Hill area will be the fall back area (for either date), should there be snow lacking in the southern tier.
Speaking of Honk, and riding in his area (Cattaragus Cty, I think). Would love to try out the trails around Letchworth State Park and Letchworth Gorge. Something to think about. Hopefully he will get back onto the TY board soon and chime in with some ideas/thoughts. Maybe he's still out "hot-boating"!!
Lets keep the ball rolling NY guys!!

Those dates work for me! I agree with the proposal to try for the Marathon ride first and backup plan would be Mapledale if no snow. I also would love to try and eventually do the bagger trip we've talked about in the past (Charlies anyone?)
Steve, not so sure it would be worth it to plan a trip around Letchworth. Although a spectacular ride when there is snow. It is pretty much an in and out ride. If you ever wanted to do it, I'd be happy to go along, but just figure on 1 day.

I may be in for those dates. A couple of friends and I put a camper up at Cedar Pines (which is outside of Redfield) and will be spending more time riding up and around the Hill these coming seasons.

NYATTACKGT- letchworth state park is where i ride pretty much everyday in the winter!! i love the trails out here when we have snow! If we wanted to get a group together to ride out this way i could plan a ride out. If your looking for 200 miles in 1 day then this really isnt the area for it! We could do some 150 mile loops in a day though. And there is a reasonably priced hotel 200 yards from the Mt. Morris Entrance of letchworth State park. (my avatar is actually a picture from letchworth state park!)

bigcountry, Matbe a few of us from central NY would come out for a one day ride sometime when you have good snow cover. I have been to that park a few timew as my daughter graduated from Houghton College just south of the park. Keep us posted this winter when you have some good snow cover in that area. BBW

Thanks Bigcountry. The idea of the Letchworth trip was really just to try out a new area. Like you (and BBW) said, maybe not a great idea to base a TY group ride though. We can leave that one for a seperate day ride sometime during the winter, when there is decent snow out that way.
Boomer, you gonna stay IN Mapledale and slum it with the rest of us TY'ers this time around? Or ya need the plush, cushiness, and wif-fi of the Beeches again? haha.
Like I had mentioned before, Freeman Hotel in Swancott Mills (between West Leyden and Osceola) would be a GREAT place to base our ride out of if we do it out of Tug Hill. I think they might even have Wi-FI access this winter. $40/night gets you, a bed to sleep in and made to order breakfast every morning you stay. But it is bring your own everything, hostel/B&B style accomodations. Community room downstairs with Satellite tv, bar, kitchen, fridge, and a nice woodstove to warm up near after a long 200-250 mile day compliments of BBW. Ride by day, come back after riding, hang down in the common area, have a few beers/pops, play some corn-hole or cards or whatever, talk about the days ride and plan the ride for tomorrow, etc, etc.... Just a thought. Nothing but ideas now.
So, are we saying to try the first ride out of Marathon for Jan 13th-17th? Make our home base 3 Bear Inn again? What do ya think there RX-1Man? Perhaps ride out of Marathon and head north and finally get me one of them Homer burgers, I have yet to try?
Keep the ideas coming!

Steve, didn't know you quit Lojack and became a salesman for Freeman Hotel LOL.
Don't think you'll be getting that Homer burger as I heard the Outpost only opens after 5pm when the health board won't come around. That way the customers can smoke and I sure wouldn't enjoy my meal under those conditions. Lots of other places to eat at anyways. Three Bear will be a good start point each day out of Marathon. Hopefully the weatherman will start forecasting some snow by the end of November

Dave, Steve geta a $5 kickback for everyone he gets to stay at the Freeman. Not only would Boomer not spend a night at the Freeman, he probably wouldn't be caught dead in the Lobby area. I don't like the way the El Nino has gotten stronger lately. Looks like it is going to be a bad year for lake effect, but that could translate into some good old Nor'easters for the Southern Tier.

Hey...I couldn't turn down the fringe benefits of the Freeman and I quit my corporate job..., $5 kickback per head, plus an extra fried egg and piece of french toast on my plate every morning when I make referrals. Who can turn that offer down!!! It is definitely not a place for primadonnas and I wouldnt recommend bringing your wife or girlfriend (or the wife AND girlfriend for you swingers!!) there for a romantic weekend or anything. Honestly, I have done a few other group rides out of there and is just my preference, better than going back to a dingy motel room and watching tv for the rest of the night. The Budget Inn in Mapledale is muuuuuuuuuch nicer, anyhow Plus the restaurant at the bowling alley across the street....to die for!!! Heard they make a mean bowl of CHOWDA!!! haha. Ehhhh, whatever group consensus is, I am fine with.
Yeah, I would choose not to eat my homer burger with a facefull of smoke either.
So whaddaya say there weatherman (BBW)?.....START FORECASTING SOME SNOW ALREADY!!!!!! SO bad year for lake effect, and good year for Nor' Easters??? Dont tell me you are starting to agree with that Accuweather winter prediction map I posted way back in September!! haha

Another place to stay if you guys are looking for is the swing inn. it is right up the road on RT 12. about 4 or so miles up the road from mapledale. Tams diner is right down the road from it for breakfast and Sheufelts is right up the road for gas too. Just another option. if your gonna be looking for some more night life i would prob say stay in mapledale as there is no direct trail from the swing inn to barneveld, you have to go a ways around.

Have stayed at the Swing Inn last year, or maybe was the year before...again, very modest accomodations, very plain and simple. It is ran by the Hudon's (same people that own the Sled salvage store on Rt 12 in Barneveld. Like you said, the only issue is heading south. To go to the south, you have to ride up to Alder Creek, then back down south, on the west side of Route 12. There are some renegade trails running directly down south from the Swing Inn, but if you dont know them, you dont know them. They are not marked or on any map. When I stayed there, we left from the Bowling Alley every morning, so I just trailered down.....which was a pain in the butt. So wouldnt be my first choice for accomodations.
