2012 AK sled build

I'll be done with that side tonight. There were some complications with getting it off do to how rigid it is so I had to do some patchwork. I'm sanding all the seams tonight and hopefully doing the final coats of resin. It's incredibly strong, all my concerns about the panels folding or caving in on an impact or while carving are gone. I'll get an exact weight when it's all done, but right now the one side is 3 lbs. If I can get all the body to come in under 7 lbs, I'll have lost 7 lbs which isn't bad.

Still working on it but I got a new job a few weeks back and I've been a little occupied studying in the evenings. The oil tank side is 100% done now though.

Making progress. Got the clutch side layed up today.

The oil tank side panel is about 3.65 lbs right now. Heavier than I was hoping for but stronger as well.

Have you ever weighed the stock panels to get a baseline of weight savings Nikolai?

Hey Caleb - Not sure how often you visit Blowest anymore, but I thought you'd be interested in seeing this build (if you haven't already). This 'skinny sled' has some of the things you've been talking about doing - like centering the motor, narrowing the jackshaft, positioning the secondary inside (or up above) the chassis subframe. Other innovative items include a custom pipe and can ... the can is especially interesting, as it is located under the motor and made to conform to the belly pan ... that's using every bit of available space for ya! Anyway, love seeing what you're up to (you have great ideas too!) ... keep the updates coming. Until your next post, check this one out: http://www.snowest.com/forum/showthread.php?t=393537

Been away for a long time. I lost interest in the sled in the midst of finishing & moving into my house, getting married, and stretching the frame on my Ranger 6x6 to run 31's so that ate up all my free time. But I'm back and working on the sled again and it feels really good.

Here is the oil tank side 100% done except for the final coat of resin which I'll do at the same time I do the clutch side. The fit is so good I could probably run it without fasteners and I think it would stay in place. Obviously I won't do that, but I'm super happy with how it turned out.

Had to reinforce the clutch side in a few places where it got stressed from removing it.

I finished sanding the oil tank side and got a final coat of resin on. It's going to take one more and it should be done.

The side panels are going to end up right around 7 lbs for both. The front piece should be under a pound. Looking like overall weight loss will be around 6 lbs. Not quite what I had hoped for but the panels are also much stronger than I had anticipated.
