- 2011 Yamaha Apex Std Red
Preacher said:Hey Murse , I have introduced some new riders to Yamaha the last 2 years and I have heard them describe the experience the same way. Many people base their opinion on some coolaid drinker from other brands and never have been on an Apex. Once they do they can't stop talking about how much FUN it is.the most common remark is "the sled pulls like a bullet train ." And the word "Addictive" is used quite a bit Lol.I added a 14 XTX to the stable and I am very impressed with the ride, the power steering and the ex up. I will add that I do like the ride of the Renegade , lets give credit where it is due, but I ride in Northern Maine trails and these trails are very close to Quebec quality so we rarely ride where we would get to noticed the difference in suspension but my ultimate sled would be my apex motor with ex up and power steering in a Renegade with R motion. Hey maybe there is a Renpex in the future.Murse said:To be completely honest though an honest review from a non snowmobiler who rode both my Apex and the Renegade. He said the Renny was more comfortable on the trail but the Apex was way more fun lol I have to agree. I have the Apex running great and the suspension and handling are best they have ever been. The sled is just pure fun. The power and the sound are purely addictive. I am happy but still anxious for the future. I am also still on the fence of a 2011-2014 Apex.
Renpex lol haha Agree on all your points for sure good sir. Although the Renegade is nice to ride my Apex is faster 180 HP Apex DROOOOOL!

The statement that "cat has perfected the 1100 turbo" had me

That I don't see happening. Now the r6 is widely rumoured to into a triple, but superbike wise, it makes no sense to make the r1 a triple from a 4. The cross plane crank already make it at like a twin tq wise and rideability wise.

Anyone know the weight of mono shock compared to new cat skids? Also I bet the apex motor is close in weight to the turbo generator motor cat has. LOL!
why wouldnt they want to make more power with less weight. thats what the 3 cylinder is all about

One would be a Procross variant with a Yamaha monoshock skid and the Apex 162-hp 4-banger under the hood. This sled would only be available from Yamaha.
The other would be a new 9000 Series Cat with the 1049cc triple and a turbocharger - only available to Cat customers.
Interesting idea indeed...
I still think the only thing that will come out will be a YamaCat mountain sled.

One week from today and we'll all know what the 2015's will be.
Chris Reid just posted this bit of info today from West Yellowstone: http://snowmobiles.yamahablogs.ca/
Sounds like Yamaha has a bunch of people and sleds there this week for the upcoming launch.

I don't think we'll see a new Apex until at least 2016. When it does arrive, however, I'm not convinced it will be a boosted 3 cyl. There will be a higher revving, higher HP 4 banger, or there will be a completely new engine.
I have wishful thinking, so we'll see.

Last I have heard, the Apex is still the top selling sled for Yamaha. By how much I don't know, but I can't see them changing the motor too much, but I could see the chassis changing after another season or so.
I personally don't think I see the "muscle sled" category going by the way of the rider forward stuff like everything else. There's still a huge percentage of us (myself included) that still like to sit back and be comfortable once in a while.
I also don't see them coming out with much in the way of power beyond the 180 mark off the showroom floor. I know we all would love that, but from a bean counter/ lawer / insurance standpoint, I think the power adders will remain an aftermarket thing, but will probably be more readilly availble at the dealers.
That's just my $.02
