More and more rumors abound that Yamaha will come out with a Mountain Viper. The question remains whether the engine will be the naturally aspirated 3 cylinder 130hp , the 4 cylinder Apex motor , or turboed either Yammy motor :rules
Arctic Cat's deal with Suzuki engines has apparently ended and they will have to replace their current turbo 1100cc engine. My guess that makes the most sense and best probability is to slap a turbo on the current 3 cylinder 4 stroke from Yamaha.
Due to past experiences with their releases over recent years, my gut has this nasty feeling that Yamaha will just come out with the non aspirated 3 cylinder and disappoint many once again.
It's possible that the Phazer would now be shifted into the Viper chassis and the Nytro totally eliminated from the lineup.

i can see the 200hp is possible but the current yamcat with a 162 inch track is 550lbs so would love to see where they lose the 50lbs.they dont need 200hp, 160hp is good for most but they need to be around that 500lb mark to compete.

Needs to be well below 500 for me to consider! 450 to 460 would be where it should be .... Same platform weight (and andling) as the competition plus the 30 to 35 lbs penalty for the 4 stroke. Went to a lighter platform this season and would not want to go back regardless of the durability. Fun factor is more important for off trail. On trail I would stick with Yamaha .... But I don't ride trails!!!

I hope the 4-banger has one more model run at the HP you described. Will it have the 16 valve head and crossplane crank? I don't think we'll see it for another year though.2001srx=fast said:Where the hell is my 180 hp apex. They make that and I will snow check one!

They had 180hp 4 bangers on the shelf 10 years ago. What makes people think they would use one now?

As far as snowmibiles go, I have no idea what Yamaha had on the shelf 10 yrs ago. I was riding Skidoo back then. My opinion on what I would like to see is just an opinion and purely speculation.
I use to ride an R1, so an Apex was an easy decision for me. I love the 4 cyl engine, and (IMO) I would like to see that engine make it into the new Apex. However, whatever the new Apex has for a mill, I'm sure it will be awesome and have more power. I'm going to speculate it will be in the 180 HP range, or slightly less.

I think he meant the r1, as they have been 180 HP a while before they ever switched to the Cross plane.northernsledder.jk said:cacsrx1 said:They had 180hp 4 bangers on the shelf 10 years ago. What makes people think they would use one now?

That's what I read into cacsrx's comment.
