I agree why is the chain stretching so much? Aren't hyvo chains not supposed to stretch?
I had tons of bolt left with the 22 gear, but now back to 21 I have very little...and Ive only been boosted up for about 1000 miles or so. Are others with stock gearing seeing very little threads left on adjuster too?

Common but I'd inspect gears and chain and the tensioner roller screws make sure one hasn't backed off. Some people trim the aluminum spacer on the adjuster bolt to give you more adjustment.

Dan, I had the same results. 22 tooth plenty of bolt adjustment left. 21 used most of the available adjustment. After 3000 miles on that setup some adjustment remained but very minimal. Switched to 24/50 for this season on my ltx le, have a lot of bolt left with this setup. More similar to the 22/41.

All looks fine inside.....I also was looking at that alum spacer thinking i can cut that down if need be.

thanks

I know many times chains will stretch when new, and then slow down at this point....

I was wondering about this too, since cat comes with 24/50 gearing, does the cat have the exact same screw and alum spacer? If so, maybe they made the bolt length an average size to accommodate both brands and gearing.

I will keep an eye on things for sure.

thanks
Dan

Also when your in your chain cases, check your reverse shaft to make sure it's still straight. Seen some that have bent and caused a lot of damage. Just pull it out of the case and have a look at it.

I'll have to try and get over and check my buddies cat 9000 to see if he has a different spacer in his stock 24/50 of if the adjustment appears the same. 24/50 and 22/41 on our sidewinders defintely looks better and leaves adjustment. Along with efficient chain direction. The 21/41 with the case off has a pretty significant jog with how much tensioner needs used to tighten the chain.

Their both the same spacer.

When my 2017 Winder was new, I had 6 chain adjuster TURNs showing as did most. The chain did not stretch at all during my initial (by the book) break in, because it was very light duty on the sled. But after it was broke in and all oils were changed and chain case inspected, I began to ride it (my) normal.

This is where I noticed the chain stretch. Only 3 Turns left and chain rub damage to the internals of my chain case.

I’ve since added the 22 top gear and different tunes, without anymore chain stretch!

Quite important to open up the chain case and inspect during the chain case oil interval on this model. Surely not the Yamaha cases of past.

Thanks for this....that was one big concern is will the chain now rub when tensioned inward too far. I swear this case was made with more design toward cat gears. The 24/50 is so much larger it puts the chain alot further outward.

I will look closer before mine goes back together, but it does have me wondering about changing gearing altogether. Maybe go to something like 24/47 which is good for approx 125mph and about as close to 21/41 top speed as you can get using the cat top gear. Speedwerx has the bottom gears on their site in many sizes. Problem is you gotta buy 2 gears, and a chain. So not cheap.

I ran the 22 top gear all last yr and while it works well for the chain/stretch issue, I am aiming for better belt life and rarely do speed runs over 126mph so id rather gear for best belt life.

Always something with these things....now to think I cant even run stock gears after stretch cause chain MAY chew into the case, grrrrr.

BTW if you happen to have any pics of damage from chain id love to see them.

thx
