Aftermarket clutch weight testing from this weekend

Hey NOS, I know you tried a lot of stuff on the Viper and if you have its probably been posted somewhere but did you ever try the gates carbon belts in 8JP and 8DN length against each other?

I ran that gates belt most of the summer with good results. I found it was a touch quicker out of the hole but gave up a touch on the big end to the 8dn length. I think it's from being a little shorter is all. I don't think either gates belt is a bad choice. Pick one and fine tune to it and you will be happy.

Don't want to go too sideways on this thread, but while we're talking belts..... does anybody have anything have anything to say about the Carlisle XS belts?

overpriced for what they are,IMO cant go wrong with a 60 dollar 8DN belt. There fast and they last.

Yes, I tried the Yami 8JP, the Yami 8DN, Gates 8JP equivalent, the Gates 8DN equivalent, Dayco belt and some Arctic belts and found the Gates 8DN (40C4340) to be the best grabbing belt, best mph belt. The Gates 8JP belt was the same but lower mph. The 8DN Yami belt raised my take off rpm's and through the whole rpm range. The stock 8JP Yami belts are stacked in the workshop to use as spares or who knows....

Now that I have some snow on the ground, I will be doing a couple tests to complete my clutching setups. Still waiting on a helix to finish the one setup.

So if I get another gates carbonfiber belt, and I want the best engagement grab, and best rip out of the hole and corner and best top end out of one of the carbonfiber belts, you recommend the 8DN version the 40c4340 over the carbonfiber version of the 8JP? What is the P/N for the 8JP in the carbonfiber if you don't mind sharing. Thanks Beast

As Shagman has mentioned... the Gates 8JP equivalent is 40C4313.... the Gates 8DN is 40C4340 (both carbon fiber)

Do your homework on these belts as some people I know have found these belts online for under $80 us.

I would say both of these belts would be awesome....but I am going with the 8DN 40C4340 belt.
Here is why:
1-the belt can be run higher at the top of the secondary (quicker take off and easier moving on top of the snow)
2-the belt grabs better and will actually bring your rpms down thru the entire rpm range.
3-they last and don't give hardly any belt dust.
4-the 8DN equivalent length... I have seen better top mph than the 8JP equivalent

My homework was done 4 years ago with these carbonfiber belts, rockerdan and myself were running them on our cats, why because a cat belt blower like mine was, would break one of these belts as soon as you hit OD and I would rather pay 55 bucks for one rather than 197 for the cat POS belt,so I was real friendly with the top guy at fleet supply, and they have the 8DN version 40c4340 for 86 bucks right now, could not find it any cheaper any place else though, thanks for all your testing, something I used to do for weks on end years ago, just to old and busy today to fool with them now,so when guys like you and sshagman do the testing,i listen lol thanks pete

What does the 8DN cost now? use to be like 50 bucks back in my apex days....Seems like that would be the best bang for buck, especially when compared to a Tcat guy who needs to drop 200.lol

Thanks Pete!

I do it for the love of the sport, want mine (along with others here) to have the best running Yamahas out there. I don't do it as a business or make money on it.....but it is in my blood to tinker with these clutches and get them working smooth, putting power to the ground.

The best part is when another TY member calls you up, tells you about his over-revving problem mostly on take off and can't seem to figure it out. With 1 picture and a description....I mentioned to him how to solve his problem and after racing at Sparta this past weekend.....I received a pm saying "That fixed the problem Terry! I tore up 800 Cats up and made it to the finals in a class I wasn't suppose to be in and took 3rd! Even ran against my buddy's XRS and we tied in 500ft! Thanks to you man! What a huge outcome that is! Couldn't have done it without ya! WOW! My Viper stayed at 8900-9100...it was perfect man! When I see my sled outrunning the Cats and right there with an XRS....it's never done that! So Kickass!!!"

This is priceless to me :)
