I've read about people modifying their Viper air box and claiming to get better throttle response. I'm all for better throttle response but have been somewhat reluctant to do the modification. I know there are a few versions people have done but the most common mod is removing the snorkel and opening up the air intake. From an engineering standpoint I don't believe this modification was a calculated design but rather cut and hope for an improvement kind of thinking.
I've been sitting around for the past few weeks due to health issues and today I got board so I decided to pull the air box and do the mod. Once in there I didn't like how the original modification cut out part of the web that supported the frog skin so I changed it up a little. I'm not sure what difference this will make but I'll give it a try.

With the modification, or stock the intake temps were crazy warm for me. Around the 80 degree mark. I was sick of it and bought a used ulmer air box kit. Wow what a difference, the highest i have seen was 60 ish degrees. Much better and my engine is happier.

Was that a Venom intake kit that adds velocity stacks and a side intake?

Yes it was. Delete the bottom suction part , I'm guessing because it was sucking air right behind the radiator.

Does that intake require any mapping changes. I've looked at Schmidt Bros Black Hole Velocity Stack intake kit which is similar to Ulmer's.

I’ve thought about installing a thin aluminum sheet to keep most of the radiator air from flowing down to the Airbox as easy as it does. I’m planning on adding a few vents by the knee panels too, it should be a low pressure area and help air move through the engine compartment keeping some of he warmer air away from the airbox. I also left the ribs to support the frogskin when I modified mine, though Indidnt cut the extra piece out of the middle stack (though I might now!)

Not what so ever. No lean spots that I have found. Actually on low end I feel it maybe smoothed things out a bit where it probably was a little rich
