Any oil with the SG API rating has the Zinc and Phosphorous additives mentioned in the Mobil article above. That said there are very few that have it.Not all Amsoils do.The 0w40Yamalube doesnt. The Zinc and Phosphorous were removed from many oils for emissions. Many will swear it can make the difference in survival of cams.I will be looking for Amsoil with low enough viscosity and that rating or will use Yamalube like I did for my end of year change.

Where are you using it? In a bike?
The Apex starter is not a wet clutch, it has lock pins...I think!!
I use the Amsoil in all my Quads and bikes. This grade has the SG rating. On the Cannondales I have never washed out a cam many, many other owners who dont run Amsoil have had cams wash out.Yes some of the cams are subpar but I am not taking any chances since many times when cam lobe goes it is hardly noticable till valve floats and then drops.Need to research for correct Amsoil for my sled and I trust Yamaha's cams much more especially with the lighter valve pressures the Ti valves allow but you never know.

per yamaha's chief service rep says..."dont use synthetics ...weve seen the wet starter fail due to this and it's not covered under warranty"

I haven't had an Apex apart, but am pretty sure I saw Ulmer say it wasn't a wet clutch! Perhaps when I get a minute, I'll look it up!!
I would be far more concerned over any one-way bearings wearing before starter clutch.Simple replacement in most cases anyway if starterclutch were to go.Speaking of clutches I have 2seasons and counting on Cannondale driveclutch and other than the tabs on plates getting bagged they are fine.

I think Gary (NosBoy) plays on the 2-stroke side, so I brought one of his postings over here (from 10-22-07); Oil seems to be a passion of his, and so is patriotism!
Do a search on the 2-stroke side for him and you'll get the picture about oils..............ENJOY!
I was at the SNOWSHOW in MILWAUKEE on Saturday and I had to work SUNDAY,,,,,but,,,, HERE GOES!!!!!!! CITGO MAKES YAMALUBE along with about 23 or 24 DIFFERENT brands (including TEXACO products) of 2 stroke oil.... IT COMES from the SAME MILLION GALLON tank (all 23 or 24 brands!!!)..... YAMAHA motor company pays some little japanese dude to throw a little pill in the yamaha jugs to call it YAMALUBE (please don't believe that)!!! Thats how YAMAHA can charge DOUBLE for a gallon than you can pay at WALMART!!!!! VENEZUELA owns CITGO (hugo CHAVEZ)!!!! Venezuela wouyld like to BLOW AMERICA to smithereens!!!! It is a semi-synthetic...
As for Amsoil I've been running it in all my 2-stroke and 4-stroke sleds and will not use anything else. Best oil you can buy
