i am wondering if anyone has experience with the Gmax or HJC modular helmets .

I have the Bv2s but looking to get for family members who only occasionally ride.

I thought with E-shield to keep from fogging when real cold, why not?

The wife and I both have Gmax with the E shield and love them. Had them for two seasons now with no problems. Would buy again in a heartbeat!

Thanks that's what I thought

I have an HJC modular that sits on the shelf, Used maybe 5 times. I HATED it! My buddy and I both bought them around the same time and both no longer wear them as there is so much draft inside it almost makes your eyes water. We had the HJC modular with the electric shield and retractable sunvisor.

CKX modular is awesome for me. Love the hidden sun shield also. I do use a heated shield though.

I have had both. Hated the HJC helmet, but love the Gmax helmet. In fact I bought a new Gmax helmet last year, even though I did not need a new one yet. I am still using the first Gmax helmet I bought 4 years ago. I bought the new one at the beginning of last year, because I loved the first one so much, I didn't want to take a chance that when my first Gmax bit the dust, I wouldn't be able to find one. It may be the shape of my head, but it is by far the best fitting helmet I have ever had.

I got a Zoan and my gf got an HJC last year...I don't know if they were considered low end or not but I definitely didn't pay a lot for either of them.

Other than the fact my Zoan tends to fog if I don't leave the visor partially cracked, we have no complaints.

I had the older HJC helmets--they leaked badly. HJC has a new snow specific modular that I am going to try this year. The visor fit is much tighter than the old CL max

I have a gmax, it's a great helmet but the vents in the front font seal well. That's my only complaint. Seal them up and off we go

CKX Tranz is a great modular helmet. I had both a GMAX 44 and HJC...both leaked so much that even taping over vents didn't alleviate the cold air rushing in. The CKX has served me well for a few years now.

I wonder what the difference is between the GMAX 44 and 54???

I bought the new FXR modular this year and wife got the new gmax both with E shields. The FXR was more comfortable and matt black looks great. Lets hope it performs well....

I wonder what the difference is between the GMAX 44 and 54,

I have both, prefer the 44. The 54 is a little nicer padded and the flip up is reshaped a bit. The issue with the 54 is that when you raise the flip it folds down the breathe deflector. When you try to close the deflector does not go back, you need to take gloves off to reposition it. The 44 works fine. Some of my friends have the 54, they don't use the breather deflector, they have the heated shields. I like to use the breathe deflector until the heat is really needed. I do like the GMAX helmets, they work well for me.

I have been riding the HJC modular for 4 years, and while it was very comfortable, it was so drafty that I ended up spending almost as much as the helmet on gear to wear under it. I just bought the Yamaha version of the FXR in the same colors as my new Viper. It will be a great winter if the weather is cold; the helmet is "warm", and that new Viper is "hot"!
