Only caveat is the newer sleds battery box is aluminum. Makes it a little harder to work with but a guy can buy a older steel box which makes it a bit easier to do.That is pure genius

I just love sleds like everyone else on here. Tom made a good thread for those struggling to change oil in their Apex. I was that person once.
Everything I know about Yamaha sleds came straight from this site.

I just followed the instructions. What a pita to get the damn first filter off. No off the shelf wrench grabs it to twist. I you a rubber strap wrench" and if finally broke loose.
BUT in the refill it looks totally filled and I only got two quarts in the damn tank. Do I need to run it to cycle it?? That mean battery and all the craps before I make sure it's not leaking at the filter(99% sure it won't)
As to the 2013 Apex I have. Allen bolt. IT WAS TIGHT! I first hit it with some pb blaster then fit a 6mm Allen in it and broke it free. Tighten back up enough too with the 6mm it seemed to fit best
WHY THE HECK WONT IT TAKE THD NECT QUART. I finished with the #2 and pulled out the stick just to see how much room I had left and it was all the to the top already. What gives??? I am now in limbo.
And I would freaking strangle the engineer who thought that battery box was a good idea there and in that structure.

Very similar experience with my first oil change as well...filter location BLOWS! I ended up using a rag over the filter to increase the diameter in order to get a better 'bite' on my strap wrench. Almost didn't get it, tough fight. Thank God for this thread which took me through the change step by step!I just followed the instructions. What a pita to get the damn first filter off. You should put in 2 to 4 quarts and then run it for a few min to fill lines and oil filter. Are you sure you drained the block, tank and pulled the filter?

Won't the bottom bolt do all the draining? It's got to be the lowest spot. I took the filter off and nothing else drained.
Spec say this is 3quarts apex. I expected more but that was it to the top of the tank. 30 minutes ago I'll have to check. Been surfing for an answer here and everywhere makes no sense the tank full loaded

Just did my first oil change on our new-to-us 13 apex. That's major surgery getting that filter out! CRAZY!

I thought it was a tad over 3 quarts but as long as you pulled the drain on the bottom of the motor and the drain on the tank and the oil filter... it all out.

SHE TOOK ALL THREE!!!!!! Thanks. I had high hopes that drain Allen bolt was the low spot because I couldn't think of what I was missing. It took the running engine to cycle it all in may get a rad more in the thing but pretty sure she's lubed up. Now the air box etc BS.
Okay, I might do my own next time too now that I know how. Now to finish the LEDs!!!

I have to ask but that tank looks to be full to the top. You have to drain both the engine and the tank. If you did not drain the tank and added three quarts to the tank then your about 2 quarts over full. This is not good!SHE TOOK ALL THREE!!!!!! Thanks.
