Using "finger tight" as part of a spec for setting chain case tension has always bothered me. The term "finger tight" is going yield tensions all across the board. I believe this is also part of the reason why top gear bushing wear fluctuates so much from one sled to another. Even as an experienced mechanic I have a sense of uncertainty when setting chain tension if I don't have the cover off. I'm working on something new that will allow for consistent and accurate tension setting between any sled and any user without having to take the chaincase cover off. In the process of getting some sample pieces made up. More details to follow as I progress.

Great idea! Are you going for 1/8in gap or what?

Product will have incremental set points for various gaps. Different opinions on what gap should be but my idea will allow consistent feedback as everyone will know exactly what gap they are running.

You will also be able to monitor chain stretch with the product for those that really are on top of things. We will be able to track how much stretch we get per x amount of miles so we have concrete knowledge to aid in service interval.

The top gear has been a nuisance for awhile, so I'm hopeful with standardized nominal data we can help prolong life of our beloved cat chaincase! Ha.

Keep the good ideas coming.... Nobody at AC is listening. Only took 9 years to get a fix for the sight glass debacle....

Guess I better wait to take chaincase apart for maintenance....

Are just going to measure the rotation of the secondary clutch back and forth at x number of turns out of chain adjuster with the park brake set?
Pretty simple to do.

It's being replaced with a small threaded plug you remove to check the level. Still no drain plug.

They are deleting the sight glass, and replacing it with a oil level check plug
