Went out to test on grass last night for some up coming grass racing, belt blew, 15mi on sled. What should I be looking at before new belt. Belt just snapped in half

Check the alignment of the clutches and the belt deflection adjustment. Please post a picture of the belt. If it literally "snapped in half" I am wondering if the secondary is binding and not letting the belt go to the bottom which would really put some stretching forces on it. Was the sled shifting up and down properly before the belt snapped?

You also should break the belt in easy for a while before hammering on it.

Seems to be shifting alright, I have thundershift helix and secondary spring, took care of coil bind

Was doing 40 when it happened, don't know how to break belt in when all there is is grass to ride on

Like others have said check your offset. Also look for casting slag in the windows of the secondary. Your owners manual shows how to check offset. 90% of the sidewinders I have checked need 2mm worth of washers behind secondary on shaft. You want to set it to the maximum distance listed. Its even ok to go a little over. the measurement is 58.1mm-61.1mm.

Was this 15 miles of full throttle passes? Do you have studs and if so how many? It sure would be nice to see a pic of the belt. I think that breaking a belt in half is from high shock loading rather than just heat from bad alignment. Maybe the hook up on grass is better than snow or ice and is over stressing the belt. Also the track may be hooking then breaking loose then grabbing again multiple times causing huge shocks to the driveline.

Did you go from full throttle, to off then back on?

No, we take a easy low speed pass to warm sled, then when flag drops it's all on for about 10seconds then you idle back to line wait for cool down

all the above...and another question...did you twist your helix properly? if you don't have your helix torsioned properly...this can happen...

Belt shouldn’t have blown either way in 15 miles I’m running 280hp at the drag strip at 140mph and haven’t blown a belt yet even with antilag I bet it was a bad belt or casting slag as shagman stated
