Gates 40C4340 Drive Belt this is what I run.. I blew on of these also(43 miles).. But in all fairness I put maybe 8 miles on it and then made some hard pulls. Cut it right in half. NO fray.. Clean like a knife.. Put 300 miles on since.
I have some changes to secondary, need seat time..
Anyone know where the above belt would compare in hardness? I know it shares the same length as the 8dn.

40C4340 = Softer compound belt, but the Carbon Fiber keeps the belt together better. Crazy how you blew one of those up....but yours was a result of coil binding....no doubt about it.

carbon fiber are softer and grip better. I use them on my boosted cat. When they blow, they blow into pieces vs the harder Kevlar belts that wind strings around your secondary.

Received my new rollers and 37/33 today. Will install and let u guys know the results
With stock weights and springs I'm not sure why anyone would want a steeper angle on top end. My rpms drop up top which is telling me it's up shifting to quick up top.
Anyway I'll let u guys know how it goes!!

I think most of us here are running different weights with aggressive profile. Stock weights are real flat so I can understand that. I'm new to the Yamaha clutching but I've never seen such a flat weight profile. You want to load that motor as much as possible.Received my new rollers and 37/33 today. That's true.
When testing and posting results, people should post there complete setup including conditions. Too many people post good results that have a totally different setup and conditions than others.

After installing my new Ulmer rollers I still have two rollers that spin. As mentioned before I have little faith in the quality of the helix. I'm leaning on getting a straight 35 from Dalton. My RPM's were great last weekend. Went to 8900-9000 and stayed.

i know changing belts will not cure whatever underlying problem may exist. But has anyone tried an XTX 5058 on their sidewinder yet? I believe it crosses over to the 8JP. I used to run XTX belts hard on my turbo cats...always changed them around 1000-1200 miles just for peace of mind...but they always performed excellent.

I have an 8dn length xtx somewhere here and will test when I get a chance but I wasn't impressed with it on a turbo viper. Had the best luck with either length gates carbon over anything.

Ben from TD had mentioned earlier that Woodys Yamaha has this figured out and it requires machining of the pocket and I think the sheave. Anyone know any more about this or them in general?

We've been machining secondary's for years for the same reason. But we're trying to find a solution with a different spring vs machining. Stay tuned.
