Broke my sled.......again!

You guys know a XTX does not have the slide action skid. Just a normal shaft run through front arm. JPS is it the lower shock mount shaft that broke on your XTX or what?

yes, it is the lower shock mount shaft. the shaft and the bolt broke clean in half, the aluminum collars were bent up and the lower shock bushing was wiped out. it was a PITA to get the shock out working in the snow.

If you read the post i started after this one called Black & Blue, you'll see the dealer got it covered.
Hey Steve i broke this thing at the trains in north Maine woods which as you know is close to nothing and i was staying in the Forks which is a bit of a hike with a broken sled. I am just going to buy a replacement i guess so a friend can machine me an identical out of solid stainless and tap both ends and use 2 bolts to mount it to the skid instead if the 13 inch bolt they use on the factory set up. i can carry the original for a just in case or if i run into someone else with this problem on the trail or in the middle of a trip.

The Race “RR” suspension also has a HD steel cross shaft on the lower front shock mounting point. The alum crossshaft is also prone to break.

I ordered all the RR components for mine this spring as you just know Cat stuff will all be backordered at some point.

Don’t you just love the Cat DNA in these things?

You say that, but why didn't Yami see the weak points and make a "superior" parts change. I'm assuming Cat has the "RR" for just this reason. With what an LE costs, I would've thunk Yami would've included the "good" suspension stuff.

Well if you look back at the 2017 Spring Surge pre buy pamphlets and online marketing material, we were suppose to get the RR suspension. That was dirty laundry that had been aired out on this site once the 17 started showing up! I did let my dealer know that I knew the difference back then and it was worth probably a couple of grand for sure!

I heard a bunch of chatter from Yamaha saying the RR was too heavy and the stock suspension was all that was needed for non race applications. Says them huh?????

And Cat did the same. RR no longer has the beefed up skid. You would have to get a 6000XC or 6000SX. They do. Yamaha maybe never asked Cat and just assumed skid was RR skid since was in 16 Viper LE’s. It’s all about the $ guys. And Cats running the show.

I had to go back to MY 2016 RR Turbo 9000 microfiche to find the correct heavier duty part numbers. So '17 and newer turbos(998s basically) must have same basic shaft as our YAM 998s.

Pulled the rear suspension out today to go through it and guess what I found? Bent lower shock shaft and the front shaft that mounts to the tunnel. I’m going to make a metal shaft for the shock, can I make a metal one for the tunnel or is there a reason it’s aluminum.
