Broke my sled.......again!

I don't know of ANYONE who has this chassis and rides fast through big bumps who hasn't at least bent that rod. If it bends far enough the extroverts catch it and rip it right out. Doesn't take much since its identical dimensions to the tie Rods! I will say this. The better your shocks are the sooner this will break since you don't feel the bumps you go faster and the weak stuff breaks. Swaybar and front arm are next. RR stuff does fix it for most. Lots of info and examples in Viper section.

This is what I was dreading going to a new sled. Now there are all these little things that can break. On my apex with the composite ZX2 it was literally impossible to break and I never even serviced it, Ever in 7 years. It needed no grease, no upgrades, just keep bogies and slides on it based on conditions. I loath metal skids but trying to keep this one less custom!

I thought of this. I could make it stronger & have it powder coated. I think for resale, a whole new tunnel will be best.
What are the other beefed up RR parts? I may need to get them all.....
There appears to be a factory reinforcement plate for this. No fabrication needed.
Part 0637-467

Is that a Yamaha part #?
$20! Just google the part number. Yes its Cat #.

My last ride for the season was 4 days in Maine. last day riding i broke my center shock mount in rear suspension. Sidewinder XTX. this is the lower where it attaches to the slide rails. There is a thick aluminum shaft that passes through the lower shock eye with a long 10mm bolt going through the middle of the shaft and bolts the assembly to the slide rail. it broke clean in half. shaft and bolt. the aluminum spacer collars on each side of the shock got ruined along with the bottom shock bushing. Called the dealer and they claim its not under warranty. Riding with only my girlfriend and in the middle of nowhere at the Lake House near the trains had to take the shock off pump the rear shock with air and have my 115 lb. girlfriend ride it back easy 125 miles to the Forks. Lucky she is light and no more damage was done riding with one shock. what the hell good is the warranty if it wont cover broken parts?

This is a serious safety issue that will eventually bite Yamaha in the #*$&@ when a rider fatality occurs. I can remember when the 98 ck3's came out with weak front arms that broke and had happened to my buddy. After a trip to the dealer and a warranty claim was put forth Bombardier made a personal phone call to the owner asking if there's anything else they can do for him. Realizing that this type of issue is not to be taken lightly.

Heading to the Trains is where i broke mine. Or should i say where mine broke?

All the trails were groomed very smooth yet it broke clean in half. its not like you can pick up the sled with a trailer there, the closest road is like 40 miles away. I would have ended up with a lot of damage if it broke at 90+ MPH.

I broke the rear suspension front crossbar/pin that ended up tearing my tunnel. It snapped right beyond the bolts.
I did this a month ago, but did not post it because i was waiting on the warranty news.
Well the news is.......they will not cover it. Not happy!

My dealer said the wrong words. He needed to say it was a part defect. He said he's never seen one break. I said, well if you've NEVER seen one break, doesn't that mean mine was defective?
Dealer said my bump stops were worn so he knows i ride hard.
I weigh 165, i'm 50 years old with a fused neck. I don't jump or look for bumps. I run the bumps because they are there & i can't go around them.
I bought an "aggressive trail" sled to......you guessed it......ride "aggressive on the trails"!

Same dealer that doesn't know of any belt issues. Time to get a new dealer. Going to talk to the manager when i pick the sled up.

What bothers me is everyone in the group including my 19,000 mile Apex hit the same stuff.
Also we were SUPPOSED to have the RR suspension that Yamaha reneged on that would have had a STEEL bar in there.

Cost will be $3000 to $4000 maybe more.
I will call insurance tomorrow, but i may just pay cash & trade it in for a 900T.

The big question is:
If i turn Yellow will you fella's still talk to me? I don't think they'll get my humor on DOOTALK
Steve,so sorry to see this happen, and yes I will always speak to you, even though you bust my peanuts....lol man our seasons are to short for this kind of crap to happen, and than hear, never seen this before!! Hope it works out for you brother.
