3. How can i make the grumpy KNAPP smile?
It takes a lot Steve when we own these POS Cats! It's a love/hate thing for me with these things as it is you now and RockerDan also. I came off a very good lightweight and powerful turbo 1200 Doo knowing there was going to be some work to do to get these things up to snuff, but I didn't realize it was going to take quite this amount of time and money. It's an evolution to get it there I know. I thought it would be cheap, what an idiot I was thinking that right?
Because of your catastrophic front shaft failure, I elected to pull the trigger on the RR parts rather than building my own. They came this week, now I have only about another grand to put into it to make it as fast and reliable as my old turbo Doo was. The Winder saga (experiment) continues into next season for me, almost perfect, just a few more $$. Dang money pit! It would have been a lot cheaper and easier for me to just put good shocks on my turbo 1200 that's for certain!

This is the greatest motor chassis combo i've ever been on.
Then it broke...

Sorry i cost you money Mike. I think all this tinkering is what you & I love about this sport anyways, just not stupid issues.
If the Snow Gods gave Mr Knapp the "perfect" sled, he'd still try to make it better or better then his buds'. KnappwithOCD.
And as some have mentioned, this chassis handles bumps so good, that we tend to ride them harder over the rough stuff.
With a new tunnel coming & RR parts, i will be more confident in my ride.
After that i just need to get 1000 miles out of a belt before GRENADTION.

Good thread and glad this was brought up and out to our attention Steve. I agree with your OCD thoughts when riding, and Im sure I can add a ton more. This is why I MUST wear my tunes when riding this sled! HAHA, so I dont worry and think about it so darn much, just get into my rock.lol
I will add the RR shaft ect too.....
Do we feel that we need more bracing/bracket for the tunnel itself too? Or is the RR shaft and end inserts enough?
Im more worried about the BELTS Mike then anything else, at least these type issues are solvable by us(not YAM) and makes me want to keep these sleds down the road, but a belt blower that may be un-solvable would put me onto another brand soon enough.

If tunnel is not damaged already the rr parts work fine. I have personally only seen one rr shaft snap and that was on a 1100turbo with damaged tunnel from stock shaft breaking. Tunnel was not repaired just hammered flat. Very Nice Exit shocks on that one.Good thread and glad this was brought up and out to our attention Steve. HAHA! You didn't cost me money Steve, Cat did with their pizz poor engineering, desire to install less than quality parts and lack of testing.

Same here about the belts guys, I hope to solve that issue next year and see if we can get some life out of them. I'm pretty confident I can fix that now that I have seen this stuff first hand. My first belt went 1560 miles along with the stock drive clutch rollers, three belts later and two sets of rollers later, I'm still struggling to make parts last. I think the guys running larger longer trails have enough air flow thru the panels to keep things cool and live, where as the shorter tight trail guys are using the throttle more and using up their belts with more heat and less airflow to the clutches. The bushing eating on the drive clutch rollers has to be addressed as well. I'll have enough components here for testing next year, I just hope that winter shows up to test it all. Going to make major changes if I have to.

I am going to upgrade to the RR parts. I hope to keep the sled for awhile and you know its only amatter of time until it bends or breaks. Why can't the thinking at AC be, "we have the technology why not make it better". I think it would pay off.

Took my skid out today. Shaft is bent in a few places......not too bad, but bent.
Guess I will be ordering the RR parts also.
Thanks for the posts and great information.

Ya,now that looks rugged, why cant they leave well enough along. They all should have that on,or all the rr stuff,we we thought we were getting.I don’t have a shaft on my BTX? See picture. This looks like a nice design.

Can you post a pic of the bent shaft?
I have a feeling i bent mine at some point earlier 'cuz when mine broke i was actually going easy.
Maybe Travis' steel shaft will be even better then the RR shaft.
