Cat announces new 858 cc for Catalyst at Haydays

Another 170 hp 2 stroke, lots of hype for 850 everyone else has lol . The biggest news is the gps gauge for the kind of snowmobiling I do . Looks to be on par with the Polaris S7 gauge. If the sidewinder had that it would be set for another 5 years and still leading the way.

If that is the gauge they are coming out with then I say it is a homerun.
That easily the best looking gauge I have seen on a sled

I am not sure what happened with that last post.

I would be happy with the current 998 offering with some slight tweaks to the seating position and this new gauge added.

I am interested to see where cat goes with the Catayst and 4 stroke offerings in the future. Hopefully they can continue to use the 998T. Maybe that will be revealed at Haydays next year.

Cat said the new motor has 11% more HP than the 800. The last Dyno Tech 800 test had it at 155hp. That should put the 858 at about 172HP. I would expect the turbo 858 version for 2026 will be around 195hp

As a fun fact, according to Dyno Tech, the 1993 Tcat 900, bone stock, dynoed at 162, and the sled weighed 606 pounds with 3 gallons of gas. Dry weight would be around 582. I loved that sled.

Wonder what the 858 weighs with 172hp and 3 gallons of gas.

Allegedly, the 600 Catalyst weighs 405 dry. Add 10 lbs for 858?

It will be a hit. People want light sleds, not heavy tanks. Each year they keep getting heavier and heavier. I still would trade some weight for longer engine life... I think teaming up with Garmin is an excellent idea. It will be way less glitchy than Polaris and Skidoo.

I took the statement that the sled weighs 4% less than the 600 to mean the old 600 since the comment was in the same thought as comparing the 850 to the 800. The old 600 weighs about 540-550lbs wherever you see it on a scale.

You can find the weight of the last model 600 all over the place (NY shootout for example) and cat is claiming a 10% weight reduction in the catalyst 600 press announcements. If the real world weight of the old 600 was 550 then the new one is 500, and the 850 weighs a bit more that that so ~500-520 dry.

If you go back to the supertrax weights the 858 in that 500lb ballpark makes sense and would make it competitive in its class. The lower center of gravity, and greater centralization may make it ride lighter.

Catalyst is 499 with oil and coolant but no gas

So basically a 600lb sled with fuel , 60-70 lbs lighter than a sidewinder.

600 should be about 560 wet, no accessories (fuel can, etc)
858 should be around 575-580 wet. Thats about 70 pounds short of the winder or 250lbs less than a Polaris prostar S4 Titan :)

Its still a big improvement to lose 50lbs from the weight of the sled so kudos to cat.
