Pulled my shocks to get them refreshed and found quite a bit of wear from stock spring collar. It will be interesting to see what cannondale says when he gets these! I am definitely switching to a 160 spring. 2017 Ltx le, 4900 miles.
If you have the qs3 with some miles, I would be checking this.

Maybe warranty ?
Yea I am surprised these haven’t worn to point of failure already. We posted this issue last year. That shock wears enough to break in half it would cause a lot of damage.

I got a new shock under warranty. At first Yamaha said no, said they don't warranty paint being worn off a shock, but when I showed a picture showing that the actual shock was worn over 1mm, they replaced it no questions asked.
I put a 160lb spring in mine beginning of season and I liked the ride and handling much better. Just one possible concern, I also broke my upgraded RR suspension bar where the front arm slides into. Not sure if the failure was related to the spring, or the fact that I break most things.

I do have warranty, but not sure of dealer help. Also not very close, since I am in indy.
I might try dealer next time I am close, which might be this week!
Thank you for the info.

Wow have only seen one other rr shaft break. Did you use the longer rr bolts?I got a new shock under warranty. Yup, the bar, and the bolts. It didn't fail completely, but cracked and broke the bar. I think the wheelies and catching air are what breaks it. I break everything, so cant really blame the sled for it. Ill be replacing that shaft every season from now on tho, or every 5000kms.
Barn of Parts has the one with a steel tube. Might be stronger.Yup, the bar, and the bolts. It didn't fail completely, but cracked and broke the bar. I found 5/8" titanium shafts on eBay for 2pcs cheaper than you can buy one from Yamaha,18" PC's I think. Just get someone with a lathe to cut it down and tap it.

Just an update, dealer lost their snowmobile dealership. So I did not pursue warranty any farther. Cannondale will getting shocks soon!

Is your spring actually a dual-rate setup (2 springs) with a crossover in the the middle? That looks like typical wear from a crossover spacer. You shouldn't have that problem anymore if you go to the 160-lb spring or any spring setup that doesn't use 2 springs with a crossover.
Yup it’s from crossover. Can also do the Weburg mod which has lasted over 3000mi. Shrinkable plastic tube that takes the wear for awhile. Is your spring actually a dual-rate setup (2 springs) with a crossover in the the middle? That looks like typical wear from a crossover spacer. Do you have a fix for this? @cannondale27 I want to have my shocks freshened up by you this year and if you have a fix I would like that done too.Yea I am surprised these haven’t worn to point of failure already. You may want to consider my cross shaft saver. Steel sleeve that slides over the stock cross shaft.
