Clutch marks

Are you still using ulmers setup or did you change? The reason I ask is our sleds are different models but clutching appears the same problems.

The primary machined for OD has not changed the belt side clearance. We pay special attention to that to make sure it is still a smooth delivery/take off at engagement.

TD what is your engagement at with the Ulmer OPO and 50Y weights as set from us? 3600 to 3800?

OK back to the Ulmer setup today. Easing up to engagement RPM is similar, maybe a bit lower with less rev/hit/settle than the 8FP's.

Boy that sure slides easy compared to mine. Maybe TD is on something about polishing where the pads go.
 
Night and day difference. If I use one hand mine will not slide easily. It takes 2 hands to keep an even pull on it as any side load makes it drag hard.
 
When my clutch is off of the sled and I take out the last bolt from the cover, my moveable sheave will fall right down.
 
One thing's for certain, if I were racing one of these machines the first thing that I would be doing (aside from recycling my trusty old used clutch) would be to tear apart and polish the slide bores to remove the machining marks that make the zeet-zeet sound when the clutch is slid.

I'm planning to have mine split and do a quick clean/polish before meeting up with Cannondale in Hazelhurst this weekend.
 
Gotta push mine down. Was it the primary or secondary that they have a new mold for?

I believe it was the secondary....this might explain the coil bind.

Depending on who Yamaha had machine the clutch parts to save money and cost, Yamaha could have loosened up on tolerances. I work for a machine shop where finishes need to be met from our customers prints. The zeet-zeet sounds you hear are from the lathe work machining where it should have been ground....IMO
